Liverpool Star Mohamed Salah Wins Football Writers’ Association Player Of The Year, Secures Biggest Win Margin

File image of Mohamed Salah.© AFP Mohamed Salah won the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award for the third time on Friday after inspiring Liverpool’s march to a record-equalling 20th English title. Salah earned the prize after scoring 28 goals and producing 18 assists for Liverpool in the Premier League this season. The Egypt forward broke the record for the most goal involvements in a 38-game Premier League campaign as Arne Slot’s side romped to their first title since 2020. Salah secured almost 90 percent of the football writers’ votes, marking the biggest winning margin this century. Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk came second in the contest, with Newcastle striker Alexander Isak third and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice fourth. Salah, who was previously given the award in 2017-18 and 2021-22, is now level with former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry as the only players to win it three times. The 32-year-old recently ended speculation over his future by signing a new two-year contract to stay at Anfield until 2027. Salah’s decision to …

Ipswich Town Relegated From Premier League After 3-0 Defeat To Newcastle

Ipswich Town Relegated From Premier League After 3-0 Defeat To Newcastle

Ipswich were relegated from the Premier League after slumping to a 3-0 defeat against Newcastle, while Chelsea kept alive their hopes of a top five finish with a 1-0 win over Everton on Saturday. Emblematic of the self-inflicted wounds that hampered Ipswich this season, Kieran McKenna’s side had Ben Johnson sent off in the 37th minute for two bookings in quick succession at St James’ Park. Newcastle’s Alexander Isak converted a penalty after Jacob Murphy was fouled by Julio Enciso in first half stoppage-time. Dan Burn‘s 56th-minute header doubled Newcastle’s lead and William Osula’s 80th-minute goal left Ipswich with no chance of beating the drop. Third-bottom Ipswich are 15 points behind fourth-bottom West Ham with four games left, ensuring their first season in the top-flight for 22 years will end with an immediate return to the Championship. Out of their depth among the Premier League elite, Ipswich have won just four of their 34 league games. Their relegation alongside Southampton and Leicester, who were both already condemned to the drop, means all three …

Christian Eriksen Set To Leave Manchester United At The End Of The 2024/25 Season

Christian Eriksen Set To Leave Manchester United At The End Of The 2024/25 Season

File image of Christian Eriksen.© AFP Christian Eriksen said on Tuesday he is expecting to leave Manchester United at the end of the season and is ready for a new challenge. The Danish midfielder has been in and out of the team since Ruben Amorim took charge last year and his contract at Old Trafford expires in June. “I’m ready to look for something new. That suits me very well,” Eriksen told reporters before Denmark’s Nations League quarter-final against Portugal, saying United had not approached him about a possible extension to his deal. “That’s why I assume the collaboration is over. That’s how I interpret it. “I’ll wait and see what offers come along, I won’t make a hasty decision, but if the right opportunity arises, I’ll take it.” Eriksen, who suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 game against Finland, has started Man United’s last two Premier League matches, having not started in the league before then since December. “My intention is not to stay in England,” added the 33-year-old. Eriksen …

“Lot Of Extreme Emotions…”: Eddie Howe’s Unfiltered Reflection As Newcastle United Win Carabao Cup

“Lot Of Extreme Emotions…”: Eddie Howe’s Unfiltered Reflection As Newcastle United Win Carabao Cup

Newcastle United celebrate after winning the Carabao Cup.© AFP Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe reflected on his team’s celebrations after ending their 70-year-long drought without a major domestic trophy after the Magpies defeated Liverpool 2-1 in the final of the Carabao Cup at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. As they sought a long-awaited first trophy since their 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup triumph and seven decades on from their last FA Cup win, hometown hero Dan Burn’s stunning first-half header on his 100th appearance for the club and Isak, who had been denied by an offside call seconds earlier, turned home a second after the break to lead the team to victory. Despite the unreal achievement from Howe’s men, the English head coach confirmed he did not join the celebrations that dragged late into the night and claimed his side is an emotional one after the club went into celebration mode post the final whistle. “We feel we deserved to win the game, and that makes it that much more satisfying. Winning the trophy was …

Manchester United Lose To Crystal Palace, Spurs Ease Pressure On Ange Postecoglou

Manchester United Lose To Crystal Palace, Spurs Ease Pressure On Ange Postecoglou

Manchester United slumped to another meek home defeat as Crystal Palace won 2-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, while Tottenham eased the pressure on Ange Postecoglou by beating Brentford 2-0. Jean Philippe-Mateta was Palace’s hero with both goals in the second half as United suffered a fifth defeat in their last six home league games. Victory takes the Eagles above the Red Devils in the table as Oliver Glasner’s side climb to 12th. Three consecutive wins for United had lifted the mood around Old Trafford but it was back to square one for Ruben Amorim after another home display lacking in creativity and riddled with defensive lapses. Amorim‘s decision to start without a natural striker backfired with both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee left on the bench. Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo started in a centre-forward role after scoring in a 2-0 victory over Romanian side FCSB in midweek. The England international’s scuffed strike came back off the post in United’s best effort of a bright opening before their attacking threat fizzled out. Palace have …

Cody Gakpo Double Helps Liverpool Thrash Struggling Ipswich In Premier League

Cody Gakpo Double Helps Liverpool Thrash Struggling Ipswich In Premier League

Cody Gakpo scored twice as Liverpool took another step towards the Premier League title with a 4-1 demolition of Ipswich at Anfield on Saturday. Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah were also on target in a dominant performance from the Reds, who remain six points clear of Arsenal having played a game less. Just a second league title in 35 years and a 20th overall to match Manchester United’s English record now seems just a matter of time in Arne Slot’s first season in charge. The Dutchman was able to make five changes from Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Lille that also secured direct passage to the last 16 of the Champions League in a sparkling season for the six-time European champions. By contrast, Ipswich are finding the step up to the Premier League a bridge too far after back-to-back promotions. Kieran McKenna’s men were thrashed 6-0 at home by Manchester City last weekend and could easily have suffered the same margin or more on their first trip to Anfield since 2002. Slot has been …

Manchester City Break The Bank, Announce Egyptian Striker Omar Marmoush Signing

Manchester City Break The Bank, Announce Egyptian Striker Omar Marmoush Signing

Manchester City have signed Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt on a four-and-a-half-year deal which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2029, the Premier League side announced on Thursday. The 25-year-old is one of the most coveted young forwards operating in the European scene. He is also capable of being deployed on either attacking flank. An accomplished Egyptian international with 35 caps to his name to date, Marmoush made his professional bow back in his Egyptian homeland as a 17-year-old in 2016 with Wadi Degla. After amassing 17 appearances and two goals for Wadi, Marmoush subsequently made the move to Europe in 2017, joining VF Wolfsburg before then making a switch to Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2023. He enjoyed a superb debut season with the Bundesliga side, netting 17 goals from 41 appearances across all competitions. Omar has maintained that impressive impact so far across the 2024/25 campaign. Prior to joining City, Marmoush had accrued 20 goals from just 26 appearances for Frankfurt alongside 14 assists. …

Ruben Amorim Unleashed Fury, Damaged Dressing Room TV After Manchester United’s 1-3 Loss To Brighton: Report

Ruben Amorim Unleashed Fury, Damaged Dressing Room TV After Manchester United’s 1-3 Loss To Brighton: Report

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim only joined the club in November, but is seemingly already running out of patience with the performances and the players at his disposal. In a move that is typically out of character for Amorim, the Portuguese reportedly damaged the giant screen television inside Manchester United’s dressing room, in a fit of fury following his side’s 1-3 loss at home against Brighton and Hove Albion. The result was United’s seventh loss in 15 games under Amorim, leaving them 13th in the Premier League table. Following the defeat, Amorim had labelled the current United squad as the “worst in the history of the club”, and seemingly did not spare his players. As per a report by British media outlet The Athletic, Amorim did not hold back his emotions after the loss, angrily letting his displeasure be known to the Manchester United players following his defeat. In this process, the Portuguese manager reportedly damaged the giant screen television inside the United dressing room usually used to go through tactics before games. …

Manchester United, Spurs Sink Again As Nottingham Forest Maintain Premier League Title Dream

Manchester United, Spurs Sink Again As Nottingham Forest Maintain Premier League Title Dream

Manchester United slumped to a 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton as Old Trafford remembered the legendary Denis Law on Sunday, while Tottenham’s troubles also persist after they lost 3-2 at Everton. Nottingham Forest maintained an unlikely title challenge with a 3-2 victory over Southampton to take Nuno Espirito Santo’s men level with second-placed Arsenal and within six points of Liverpool. United, by contrast, are 24 points adrift of the leaders and focused on mere survival after Brighton stormed Old Trafford for the third consecutive season. Ruben Amorim‘s men looked to have turned a corner after a thrilling 2-2 draw at Liverpool was followed by knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup earlier this month. But after Amad Diallo’s late hat-trick papered over the cracks in a 3-1 win over bottom-of-the-table Southampton in midweek, Brighton exposed the glaring holes in the foundations of Amorim‘s United project. Kaoru Mitoma squared for Yankuba Minteh to open the scoring inside five minutes. Bruno Fernandes’ penalty levelled for United before the break. Mitoma restored Brighton’s lead on …

Big Blow For Wolves, Star Striker Matheus Cunha Handed Two-Match Ban

Big Blow For Wolves, Star Striker Matheus Cunha Handed Two-Match Ban

File image of Matheus Cunha.© X (Twitter) Wolves forward Matheus Cunha was given a two-match ban on Tuesday after his clash with Ipswich backroom staff following his side’s damaging Premier League defeat. Cunha was seen confronting members of Ipswich’s security team in ugly scenes after the final whistle of Wolves’ 2-1 loss to their relegation rivals at Molineux on December 14. He was reported to have elbowed a member of the Ipswich staff before snatching the man’s glasses from his face. Cunha’s team-mate Rayan Ait-Nouri was sent off as tempers flared after Jack Taylor bagged Ipswich’s winner deep into stoppage-time. Cunha was charged by the Football Association and subsequently admitted the charge. An independent commission has suspended the Brazilian for Wolves’ next two matches and handed out an £80,000 ($100,000) fine. The FA said written reasons for the commission’s sanctioning decision would be published in due course. The 25-year-old will miss Wolves’ Premier League game with Nottingham Forest on Monday and the FA Cup third round trip to Bristol City. Cunha has arguably …
