Police have registered a case against BJP leader and former MLA Shashank Bhargava on charges of abetting a farmer’s suicide in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district, officials said on Monday. The body of farmer Govind Gurjar was found on April 27 near a railroad at Peepal Wali Puliya, Vidisha City Superintendent of Police Atul Singh said.  The deceased recorded a video shortly before his death, in which he purportedly levelled serious allegations against the former MLA. A Delhi court has directed the city police to expedite its investigation into an extortion case lodged against former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Naresh Balyan, accused of aiding UK-based gangster Kapil Sangwan, noting that the case has been pending since 2019 and that the final report is awaited. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Congress’s former Haryana MLA Dharam Singh Chhoker from a five-star hotel in New Delhi Monday morning in connection with an alleged money laundering scam worth Rs 1,500 crore. A few weeks ago, the agency had attached his assets amounting to Rs 44.55 crore. Chhoker is a close aide of former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The case pertains to alleged irregularities in the allotment of flats, houses, and plots by his real estate companies in Gurgaon. The former MLA and his firms allegedly amassed over Rs 616 crore from investors but failed to deliver the allotments. Chhoker and his sons Sikander and Vikas are being investigated in the case. The Trinamool Congress has suspended its former Rajya Sabha MP Santanu Sen and former Bhangar MLA Arabul Islam for allegedly breaching party discipline and engaging in anti-party activities, senior party sources said Friday. TMC vice-president and spokesperson Jay Prakash Majumder confirmed to The Indian Express that the two were suspended. Santanu Sen is known to be close to the party’s all-India general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee.
