Lakshman of Telangana High Court on Friday (November 29, 2024) quashed two First Information Reports issued against former MLA Patnam Narender Reddy of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in the Lagacharla violence case. The Judge, however, gave liberty to the Bomraspet police of Vikarabad district investigating the first FIR (crime no. 1532/024) in Lagacharla violence case to record statements of the complainants of the remaining two FIRs. These statements can be treated as statements of the witnesses in the first criminal case registered against the former MLA, the Judge said. Basing his order on the principle laid down by the Supreme Court in TT Antony vs State of Kerala and Jacob John vs State of Manipur, the Judge observed that the registration of multiple FIRs against the ex-MLA was “impermissible”. The Punjab Police Wednesday arrested a former Congress MLA, who is now in the BJP, and her driver for allegedly trying to sell 100 grams of heroin in Mohali’s Kharar area, a senior officer said. Inspector General (Hqrs) Sukhchain Singh Gill said the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) also seized 100 gram heroin from Satkar Kaur and her driver Jaskeerat Singh who were arrested in the presence of two ‘independent witnesses’ when she arrived to sell the contraband to a decoy. Satkar was behind the wheels of a luxury car and had come to deliver the heroin after Jaskeerat, arriving in a separate vehicle, had first collected the payment. The deal had been fixed for Rs 2.5 lakh. A police personnel also sustained injury when his feet came under car’s tyres as Satkar allegedly tried to flee. She also allegedly hit and damaged the car of a “witness”, while trying to flee. Kaur was the MLA from the Ferozepur Rural constituency from 2017 to 2022. A former Congress MLA, Parminder Singh Pinki, from Ferozepur created ripples in the district health department when he ‘inaugurated’ a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in village Attari of Ferozepur city on Monday. The health department, however, had no clue about this PHC nor they know if it was ever being constructed. The civil surgeon later told The Indian Express that she did not even know if any such PHC was coming up at that place. Money laundering case: ‘Investors’ in jailed ex-MLA Mukhtar Ansari’s firm under ED lens

PRAYAGRAJ Questioning of mafioso-turned-politician and former MLA Mukhtar Ansari by Enforcement Directorate officials has revealed his connection with some white-collar criminals, claim officials. During the probe, Mukhtar, who is on a 10-day remand, told officials that several people have invested in his firm “Vikas Constructions” and his father-in-law’s firm “Agaaz Constructions”. ED officials have said that summons will soon be issued to others in the ongoing money laundering case. A probe into the case has also revealed transactions by his brother MP Afzal Ansari into Mukhtar’s company. ED officials had earlier summoned Afzal but no action has so far been taken against him. The name of another investor — currently lodged in jail — has also come up during the investigation. His statement is likely to be recorded in the jail itself. However, ED officials have clarified that action will only be taken after collecting concrete evidence.
