Around 110 children fell ill after consuming food at a private school in Indore, prompting the administration to launch a probe into the matter and seal the kitchen on Monday (June 22, 2026), said officials. The district administration sealed the kitchen of the private school after finding expired food items and other irregularities during an investigation into the suspected food poisoning incident two days ago, they said. Following a complaint from parents, the administration conducted an inspection at the Jhalaria campus of Shishukunj International School on Bypass Road. A total of 23 samples of various food items and prepared meals used in the school kitchen were collected and sent to the laboratory for testing, according to the officials During the inspection, 10 packets of spices and two of namkeen were found in the kitchen which were past their expiry dates, they said, adding while a case is being prepared for various irregularities, the school kitchen was sealed until further orders. AI-generated image used for representation The Supreme Court has clarified that a driving licence stops being valid immediately after its expiry if it is not renewed, bringing an end to any assumption of automatic extension under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. A bench of Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and S. V. N. Bhatti said that after the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 came into force, a licence holder becomes legally unfit to drive from the very next day after the licence expires if renewal has not been done. The court said this creates a “legal disability” to drive. Explaining the current legal position, the bench noted that the amended law does not provide any grace period after the expiry of a licence. Earlier, before the 2019 amendment, the Act allowed licences to remain valid for an additional 30 days after expiry. A shop owner allegedly repacking and selling expired edible oils with tampered labels was arrested on Tuesday. During the raid, officials seized a total of 1,014 litres of edible oil valued at approximately ₹1.90 lakh. Following a tip off, the South-East Task Force team of the Commissioner’s Task Force, along with Food Safety officials, raided Sri Ganesh Balaji Lakkadatar Oil in Sri Krupa Market, Mahbub Mansion, Malakpet. The shop owner, identified as Ashok Kumar Agarwal, 51, a resident of Kachiguda, was found repacking edible oil packets with expired labels and using whiteners to suppress expiry dates and batch numbers without a repacking licence. The seized items included 39 bottles of Fresh Heart brand oil with expired date stickers (each containing five litres), 27 bottles of the same brand (each containing two litres), 13 tins (each containing 15 litres) with expired date stickers, and 38 tins (each containing 15 litres) without date stickers. Preliminary investigation revealed that Agarwal was purchasing edible oils in bulk and repacking them with altered labels to mislead customers and make profits. …
