Ranveer Singh’s Don 3 exit row not over; Producers Guild to hold mediation with Farhan Akhtar

Following Ranveer Singh’s alleged abrupt exit from the film in December last year, the dispute between the actor and the filmmaker has only deepened, with multiple stakeholders getting drawn into the fallout. While the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) on Wednesday revoked its non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh, the Producers Guild of India simultaneously issued a strongly worded statement against last-minute withdrawals from film projects. Now, reports suggest that the Guild is once again stepping in to mediate the ongoing dispute. ‘There is always the court route’ As per a report by Mid-Day, the Guild is expected to hold another round of discussions in the coming weeks. While Vice President Manish Goswami refrained from offering a timeline, he confirmed that the body would reconvene to address the issue. The report quoted him as saying, “The Guild is yet to formally table the deal. From here, it can go two ways. …

Exclusive! Legal expert Hitesh Jain on Ranveer Singh, Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3 row: FWICE had no business taking sides

Hitesh Jain, legal expert and managing partner at Parinam Law, speaking to us about Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3 row says, “The directives issued by FWICE were meaningless and unenforceable. The film industry is not going through a glorious time and people are struggling for work. When you issue such directives, it is not in the interest of the workforce, which FWICE claims to represent. When you halt a project, you go against employment opportunities for the many people engaged on it. FWICE had no business taking any stand in a matter involving two parties.” He adds, “If Excel Entertainment felt it had a strong case, nothing prevented it from approaching the court. In a contractual dispute, there is no question of morality. The fact that Excel did not approach the court and instead used backdoor methods exposes …
