Sourav Ganguly saved Rahul Dravid’s ODI career by going against BCCI selectors: ‘It could have finished him’

Sourav Ganguly’s latest comments on Rahul Dravid offer more than a nostalgic anecdote. They reopened one of the most consequential tactical decisions in Indian cricket, a move that helped preserve Dravid’s ODI career while reshaping the team structure ahead of the 2003 World Cup. Sourav Ganguly spoke about his decision to use Rahul Dravid as a wicketkeeper in ODIs. (PTI, X images) Speaking on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Ganguly reflected on his leadership philosophy of publicly backing players while privately addressing hard truths. The example he chose was Dravid. “There was a phase when Rahul Dravid was getting picked in ODIs. But people used to say his strike rate was not good enough. Selectors would say maybe someone else needed to be picked. But I did not leave him, because if I had left him, it could have finished him,” Ganguly said. That recollection points directly to the early 2000s, when Dravid’s place in India’s ODI side was under genuine scrutiny. By then, Dravid was already one of India’s most respected batters, but ODI cricket was …

‘Democracy will be finished’: Priyanka Gandhi attacks Centre over amendment bill

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Centre, warning that the proposed Constitution amendment linked to women’s reservation and delimitation could have serious consequences for India’s democratic framework, reported PTI. Speaking during a debate in the Lok Sabha, she alleged that the government has moved from exerting pressure on institutions to launching what she described as an “open attack” on democracy. Sharp Criticism of Proposed Constitutional Changes Priyanka Gandhi questioned the intent behind the proposed amendment, arguing that while it appears to promote women’s representation, its deeper implications raise concerns, reported PTI. She asked why the government cannot implement 33 per cent reservation for women within the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats, instead of linking it to a future increase in seats through delimitation, reported PTI. According to her, the proposal to expand the Lok Sabha to up to 850 seats based on delimitation creates uncertainty and shifts the focus away from immediate implementation. Concerns Over Delimitation Commission The Congress leader expressed apprehension about the role of the proposed …

10 years of Kapoor & Sons: Finished reading the script with tears in my eyes, says Sidharth Malhotra

Shakun Batra’s 2016 family drama Kapoor & Sons, featuring late veteran Rishi Kapoor alongside Sidharth Malhotra, Fawad Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ratna Pathak Shah, and Rajat Kapoor, clocks 10 years today. The character, modelled on Shakun’s relationship with his sister, harboured resentment toward his elder brother, Rahul (played by Fawad), for being the golden child. Sidharth Malhotra Recalling how he came on board, Sidharth tells us, “When I first read the script, I remember finishing it with tears in my eyes. It felt so real, like stepping into a warm, chaotic Punjabi family where every character had a heartbeat. Playing Arjun was special because he was layered, vulnerable and carrying so much inside him.” The 41-year-old says that this has been a deeply rewarding project. “10 years later, people still talk about the film, the scenes and the family dynamics. Like they’ve lived with these characters themselves. That kind of love is rare, and I feel grateful we got to bring that story to life,” …

When it comes to comedy films, there aren’t many who can match the brilliance and prolificacy of Priyadarshan. In a filmmaking career spanning four decades, he has created dozens of evergreen humorous movies, many of which carry unparalleled rewatch value. However, Priyadarshan is now concerned that he has finally run out of novel ideas. Nonetheless, for his fans, there’s nothing quite like a good Priyadarshan film, and the same holds true even for cricketer and former Indian team captain Virat Kohli. “Frankly speaking, I like to make serious films now. I don’t like making comedies anymore; I am forced to now. I think I have run out of ideas. I am finished. I don’t want to repeat what I did in the past. I will make one more comedy film, and I am done,” he shared during a recent conversation with Pinkvilla. Must Read | Priyadarshan reacts to Paresh …
