The direction comes in response to repeated explosions that have claimed multiple lives in recent years. The Bench, on Thursday, criticised the widespread use of untrained labourers in hazardous operations, observing that most accidents could have been prevented with proper supervision and skill training. It directed the authorities to submit any existing rules that define how skilled and unskilled workers should be engaged, and to establish clear guidelines where none currently exist. The issue is part of several connected cases concerning frequent blasts in fireworks units across Sivakasi, Virudhunagar, and surrounding districts. Bengaluru FC have filed an official complaint with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) after a firecracker was hurled into their direction following the conclusion of their 2024-25 Indian Super League final against Mohun Bagan Super Giant last week. Banaskantha Police on Thursday received an eight-day remand of a father-son duo, the accused in the case of a blast at a firecracker warehouse in the district, which on Tuesday killed 21 people, including 7 children. The accused Khubchand Renumal Mohanani and his son Deepak Khubchand Mohanani are the owners of Deepak Traders, which owns the warehouse. They were detained on Tuesday and booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and other sections of the BNS, as well as The Explosives Act, 1884, and The Explosive Substances Act, 1908, at Deesa Rural police station. Banaskantha SP Akshayraj Makwana said that both the accused were formally placed under arrest late on Wednesday night, and subsequently produced in a local court on Thursday. The court granted the police the eight-day remand of the accused that will end on April 11. Apart from aluminium powder, a team from the forensic science laboratory (FSL) also found yellow dextrin powder from the warehouse where firecrackers were stored, Banaskantha district Superintendent of Police Akshayraj Makwana told reporters. Though the SP admitted that both substances are used for manufacturing firecrackers, he told reporters that a detailed investigation was underway to find out whether firecrackers were manufactured in the godown or not.
