Abhishikth Kishore on Tuesday said the Andhra Pradesh government had credited ₹27.19 crore into the bank accounts of 13,597 beneficiaries in the district under the fishing ban relief scheme. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu participated in the ‘Matsyakarula Sevalo’ programme held at Kavali in Nellore district, while the district-level programme was attended virtually from the Collectorate by Mr. Abhishikth Kishore, Joint Collector G. Vidhyadhari, and legislators Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu and Vamsi Krishna Yadav. A mega cheque for ₹27.19 crore was presented to beneficiaries under the fishing ban compensation scheme during the programme. Addressing the gathering, the Collector said the government had released ₹20,000 each to fisher families to help them during the annual fishing ban period. Dinesh The fish farmers (pisciculturists) of Shikaripur taluk in Shivamogga district of Karnataka have accused the Department of Minor Irrigation of floating tenders for auctioning fishing rights in minor irrigation tanks without keeping them in the loop, to benefit a select group of people. A few fish farmers from Shikaripur taluk addressed a press conference in Shivamogga on March 30. M.C. Malleshappa from Kavuli village said that earlier the Department of Fishers would put up notices in all villages and create awareness among fish farmers through different modes of communication before floating the tender. “However, this year, after the tanks were handed over to the Department of Minor Irrigation, officials conducted the process without involving fish farmers in any way. Earlier, hundreds of farmers would respond to the bid process. This time, only a few people could participate,” he said. Panaji: Fishing trips in Goa have been halted due to a shortage of commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders after the ongoing West Asia conflict disrupted liquefied natural gas shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. Each trip uses around four to five gas cylinders. We had stock until yesterday, which ran out today. The police have registered a case against the captain of a Panama-registered ship that rammed a fishing boat off the Kerala coast, leaving two fishermen missing and nine others rescued, officials said on Monday (March 9, 2026). The Vizhinjam Coastal Police registered the case against the captain of the ship named Solis. The case was registered on Sunday, based on a complaint lodged by Ramesh Mathew of Sakthikulangara, Kollam, owner of the fishing boat St Joseph, which left for fishing on Friday night. The FIR said that the missing crew members are Badal Das (23) and Laxman Das (45), both natives of West Bengal. With Hilsa fish in high demand and fetching premium prices in the Bengal region, the new advisory seeks to leverage advanced machine learning algorithms to predict Hilsa availability at sea, categorising it into five levels — very low, low, medium, high, and very high. These predictions, generated daily, provide a three-day forecast, helping fishermen quickly identify potential fishing sites, said INCOIS director T.M. Balakrishnan Nair. “The PFZ – potential fishing zone, advisory for this species is ascertained with the help of various environmental parameters like chlorophyll, salinity, fresh water influx, rainfall, ocean currents, ocean tides and so on,” he said post the official launch of the advisory by Council of Scientific & Industrial Research director General N.Kalaiselvi. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has apprehended two Bangladeshi fishing trawlers along with 78 fishermen, an official statement said on Tuesday. An official statement said that the Indian Coast Guard successfully intercepted two Bangladeshi fishing trawlers and 78 fishermen engaged in unauthorised fishing within Indian waters on December 9, 2024. It said, the Indian Coast Guard Ship, while patrolling along the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL), identified suspicious activity within Indian maritime territory. Acting swiftly, the ICG intercepted two vessels—”FV Laila-2″ and “FV Meghna-5″—both registered in Bangladesh, with 41 and 37 crew members, respectively. Upon inspection at sea, the trawlers were confirmed to be engaged in unauthorised fishing activities and were booked under the Maritime Zones of India Act, 1981. The vessels and crew were then escorted to Paradip for further investigation. The operation reaffirms the Indian Coast Guard`s vigilance and its role in maintaining maritime safety and safeguarding the nation’s waters, the statement said.
