The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Union government and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to apprise it of “remedial steps” taken to address concerns surrounding the procurement and rollout of the board’s on-screen marking (OSM) system, while observing that evaluation discrepancies had caused considerable “frustration” to young students. A Mohali consumer commission has directed a solar installation company to repair a malfunctioning rooftop solar power plant at a doctor’s residence within a month or refund the entire ₹2.9 lakh paid for the system, holding the firm guilty of deficiency in service and unfair trade practice. New Delhi: IIT experts to help fix CBSE portal snag Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday directed a team of professors and technical experts from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Madras and IIT Kanpur to assist the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in resolving glitches in its post-result services portal, amid complaints from students and parents over technical issues in the re-evaluation process and lower-than-expected scores in Class 12 exams under the new digital evaluation system. “The expert team will implement focused technological improvements of the systems and technical workflows and will specifically examine portal stability and server performance,” the ministry said in a statement. A bench of Justices Anil Kshetarpal and Amit Mahajan was hearing an Army officer’s plea seeking the expunction of three CRs relating to the period from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2010, and from June 20, 2011, to December 31, 2011, and challenging the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) order that earlier dismissed his plea. “It is also well delineated that the assessment of Confidential Reports and suitability for promotion falls squarely within the domain of the competent authorities and expert bodies,” the court said on May 16.
