High drama erupted near the Shivajinagar Bus Stand in Central Bengaluru on Tuesday, when officials of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) began a footpath clearance drive, with a group of people launching an attack on the officers, assaulting them with chairs and helmets, and using pepper spray to chase them away. The Commercial Street police have arrested 10 persons in connection with the alleged assault. According to the officials, the main accused, Basavaraj Pudukote, president of the State unit of Karnataka Sene, believed to be the instigator, is yet to be arrested. Authorities said all those arrested so far have been booked under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with attempt to murder. According to officials, Assistant Executive Engineer Madhav Rao was attacked while supervising an anti-encroachment operation conducted by GBA personnel. The assailants allegedly obstructed the drive before assaulting the officer, and fleeing from the spot. 2 min readPuneFeb 24, 2026 10:55 PM IST The Footpath Repair Campaign launched by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has come under scanner as a citizens group has alleged that footpath tiles in perfect condition ‘are being replaced for no reason’. “It is certainly welcome that the Pune Municipal Corporation has undertaken a footpath repair campaign. Pedestrians need to have safe and well-maintained sidewalks. The head of the municipal road department has announced that this campaign has started with the repair of footpaths in Model Colony,” said Vivek Velankar of Sajag Nagrik Manch. In some places at model colony, he said the tiles on the footpaths were replaced last year and they are still in good condition but the taxpayers’ money was being wasted by replacing these tiles for no reason. “While the pavement repair campaign is expected to clear the pavement encroachments, install barriers to prevent vehicles from coming on the pavements, the industry of replacing these well-maintained tiles should be stopped,” said Velankar. In a horrific incident n Maharashtra`s Pune, a 6-year-old boy and his 8-year-old sister were killed and three others, including the duo`s younger sister, were injured after a bus climbed onto a footpath in Hinjewadi area on Monday evening. A police official, while addressing the incident, said that the driver was allegedly drunk when the unfortunate accident happened. Furthermore, the police official from Hinjewadi Police Station also asserted that he has been arrested, as reported by news agency PTI.  While briefing more about the incident, he said that “A private firm`s bus on Monday evening drove onto a footpath and rammed into five pedestrians, including three siblings who were returning from school,” as quoted by PTI.  “While a 6-year-old boy and his 8-year-old sister died, their younger sister sustained critical injuries. Two children and a man were killed and six other persons injured in the wee hours of Monday after a truck ran over people sleeping on a footpath in Maharashtra`s Pune city, police said, reported news agency PTI. Police officials stated that the incident took place at around 12.30 am in the Wagholi area. Several persons were sleeping on the footpath during the incident, police said. The truck driver was detained after the incident, the police said. “There were many people sleeping on the footpath near Kesnand Phata area, most of them labourers.
