In a tragic incident, two people were killed and four others injured after a bus mounted a footpath in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area of Pune on Monday, police said.
The incident triggered panic in the area, following which heavy police deployment was made to control the situation and manage traffic.
According to officials, the bus driver has been detained for questioning. The injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Further investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.

ACP Wakad Division Sunil Kurade said that the initial observations suggest that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, while efforts are underway to trace the owner of the bus.
ACP Wakad Division Sunil Kurade said, “Crossing Shavji Chowk and heading towards Wakad bridge, a bus entered a sidewalk and hit six pedestrians. Two died, and one is seriously injured. The driver has been taken into custody. Primary observation suggests he was drunk. Efforts are underway to identify the bus owner.”
In a separate incident, a major road accident in Maharashtra’s Solapur district claimed five lives on the spot after a collision between a truck and a car on Monday.
According to initial reports, three others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
