Sunflowers Were The First Ones To Know is a student film, directed by Chidananda S Naik, who studied at FTII, Pune. The short film is based on a Kannada folk tale about an old woman who steals a rooster, and this pushes her village into perpetual darkness. Taking to X, FTII wrote: “FTII brings big honour to India. A group of renowned filmmakers, authors and civil society groups made representations to the police and FTII (Film and Television Institute of India) Pune administration with regard to the violence that occurred on the campus on January 23. They expressed concern about students safety and requested unbiased and prompt investigation. On January 23, some unidentified persons entered the premises of the film institute, burned a poster mentioning the Babri Masjid, vandalised student exhibits and allegedly attacked some students. National Award winning filmmaker and FTII alumnus Sunil Sukthankar, veteran theatre artist Sushama Deshpande, photographer and artist Sandesh Bhandare, author and member of PUCL Milind Champarnekar were part of the delegation that submitted a letter to the FTII administration on February 1. Right-wing activists enter FTII, attack students over banner decrying Babri Masjid demolition

Right-wing activists entered the campus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune on Tuesday and allegedly assaulted students over a banner condemning the 1992 demolition of the Babri Masjid, police said. President of the FTII Students Association (FSA) Mankap Nokwoham was among those who were attacked, the association claimed. The banner with the words “Remember Babri, Death of Constitution” had been put up by the FSA on the campus on Monday, said deputy commissioner of police Sandip Gill. The incident at the country’s premier film institute took place a day after the grand consecration ceremony of the Ram Lalla idol took place in Ayodhya.
