Delhi sees a Grey Indian Wolf after nearly a century? Resembling creature along Yamuna sparks buzz

The Indian grey wolf, known for its resilience and ability to travel long distances, has recently been documented in areas like the Chambal region, after being absent for years. While Delhi may seem an unlikely destination, large parts of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh support viable wolf populations. New Delhi: In a city where ambition, chaos, and relentless pace often define daily life, a quiet, shadowy figure slipping through the tall grasses of the Yamuna floodplains has stirred a sense of wonder – and a little disbelief.  On an early Thursday morning, as Delhi bristled with its usual anger-infused traffic snarls while some feasted on the chole bhature breakfast, the day began differently for one gazing at a bank along the Yamuna.  A lone animal, calm and alert, padded silently along the riverbanks near Palla in north Delhi. It may well have been the Indian grey wolf – an elusive predator unseen in the capital for nearly a hundred years. The possible sighting, captured by wildlife enthusiast Hemant Garg, has sparked excitement among experts. Garg, a …

Pahalgam attack: India seeks to re-list Pakistan on FATF’s grey list and review IMF aid amid rising tension

India moves to re-list Pakistan on FATF grey list and seeks IMF aid review over terror funding concerns after the Pahalgam attack. New Delhi: In response to the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 26 Hindu tourists, India is considering two significant measures aimed at curbing financial support for terrorism emanating from Pakistan. Push to Re-List Pakistan on FATF’s Grey List India is contemplating initiating a process to have Pakistan reinstated on the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) “grey list,” a designation that subjects countries to increased monitoring due to deficiencies in combating money laundering and terrorist financing. Pakistan was previously placed on the grey list in June 2018 and remained there until October 2022. During this period, Pakistan was required to implement a 34-point action plan to address these deficiencies. Re-listing Pakistan could have significant economic repercussions, including reduced foreign direct investment and increased due diligence requirements for international financial transactions. This move would also signal to the global community that Pakistan has …

Study Finds grey Seals Can Track Blood Oxygen to Prevent Drowning

Marine mammals rely on oxygen to survive, yet some species stay underwater for long periods without breathing. Scientists at the University of St Andrews wanted to understand how gray seals manage their time underwater without relying on carbon dioxide buildup as a signal. Six adult gray seals were placed in a controlled environment to observe their diving patterns. The seals were only allowed to surface at a designated chamber, where researchers adjusted oxygen and carbon dioxide levels to test their responses. Research Confirms Oxygen as the Primary Trigger According to the study published in Science, different air compositions were tested to measure their effect on dive times. The air in the breathing chamber was adjusted across four conditions: normal air, increased oxygen, reduced oxygen, and heightened carbon dioxide levels. When oxygen levels were increased, seals stayed underwater for longer. When oxygen was reduced, they surfaced sooner. Carbon dioxide changes did not alter their behavior, suggesting that oxygen, not carbon dioxide, determines when they come up for air. Unique Adaptation in Marine Mammals Researchers says that …
