The main accused in the lynching of GRP constable Soumya Ranjan Swain was arrested by the Odisha Police’s Crime Branch, a statement said on Tuesday (May 26, 2026). Odisha Police arrests five for lynching GRP constable Binod Kumar Behera (48) of Satya Nagar in Bhubaneswar was arrested from Indupur in Kendrapara district on Monday (May 25, 2026) night based on specific intelligence inputs gathered during the investigation, it said. Behera had been absconding since the May 7 incident, and investigations revealed his involvement in the assault on the constable, it added. “So far, 16 accused persons have been arrested in connection with the case. Investigation is continuing on a priority basis, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other persons involved in the incident,” the statement said. GRP summons man for questioning after his wife and children end life near Charlapalli railway station

A day after a woman and her two children ended their lives on the outskirts of Charlapalli Railway Station, the Government Railway Police (GRP), Secunderabad, has asked her husband to appear for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. The man, identified as 48-year-old Surender Reddy, has been working with a private company in Dubai and had been residing there. Police said he returned to Hyderabad on Saturday (January 31, 2026) evening to attend the final rites. An official close to the investigation said that Reddy was contacted over the phone as part of preliminary probe and was asked to come to the police station on Monday for further enquiry. The deceased were identified as 38-year-old Penaty Vijaya, a software employee, and her two children — 18-year-old Chetana Reddy, and 17-year-old Vishal Reddy, both students.
