Under ‘Operation Passenger Security,’ GRP and RPF caught three notorious criminals at Prayagraj Junction with stolen items worth Rs 1.5 lakh.

In a significant breakthrough under the ongoing ‘Operation Passenger Security’ initiative, a joint team of the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) successfully apprehended three notorious criminals at Prayagraj Junction Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh. The campaign, aimed at ensuring passenger safety and preventing thefts on trains and station premises, has led to increased vigilance across key transit points.

During one such operation at the station, GRP personnel observed three individuals disembarking from an air-conditioned coach and sitting at the Howrah end of platform number 1. Notably, all three appeared to be sweating profusely, an unusual sight for passengers in an AC compartment, which immediately aroused suspicion.

Upon being questioned, the trio claimed the coach was excessively warm, although no technical fault with the air-conditioning had been reported. Further scrutiny revealed each individual carrying two mobile phones, prompting officers to take them into custody for further interrogation.

The suspects were later identified as Sanjay Kumar of Rohtak, Vinod Kumar of Hisar (both in Haryana), and Dilip Sahu from Banda, Uttar Pradesh. All three are long-wanted criminals with a history of theft-related offences and had been on the GRP’s radar for some time.

A subsequent search led to the recovery of several stolen items, including six mobile phones, a gold ring, and an anklet. The estimated value of the recovered mobile phones alone is approximately Rs 1.5 lakh.
