‘If Alcaraz hadn’t received treatment, that would have been the real scandal’

3 min readFeb 1, 2026 04:28 PM IST Patrick Mouratoglou says Alexander Zverev’s claims that Carlos Alcaraz received “special treatment” While cramping, has a nuanced argument. Taking to LinkedIn, after reiterating his thoughts on a podcast, Mouratoglou said tennis needed to consider to get real about Rulebooks. “In the world of professional tennis, there is the Rulebook, and then there is Reality. When reality follows its course, we shouldn’t pretend it’s a scandal. Alexander Zverev suggested that Carlos Alcaraz receives “special treatment,” pointing to how Alcaraz dealt with cramping during their Australian Open semifinal as proof. I see it differently: Unfairness isn’t about what’s on paper; it’s about inconsistent application. If Alcaraz hadn’t received treatment, that would have been the real scandal,” the famous French coach of Serena Williams who went on to coach Grigor Dimitrov and Harold Rune said. Why? “Because the “rule” on cramping is one of the most misunderstood—and most flexible—areas of the game. Having watched and coached for the last 25 years, I can tell you: players who cramp almost always …

England’s dropped catches show they hadn’t played enough going into the Ashes, says Michael Clarke | Cricket News

Among the many talking points going into the Ashes was the fact that England had chosen not to play a single first class match in Australia in order to acclimatise to the conditions. England have ended up being wiped out in the first two Tests and are trailing 2-0 going into the third. Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has said that the number of catches that England were dropping, particularly in the second Test, showed that they needed more preparation going into the series. “When you’re dropping catches, that’s concentration. Heavy legs on the bowlers, bowling your second or third spell … that’s time on your feet in the field,” he said on Code Sports. “So yes, England might have hit enough balls in the nets and bowled enough balls, but for me, they hadn’t played enough long-form cricket leading into this series, and that’s why I think their preparation’s been questioned.” Clarke, however, felt that England head coach Brendon McCullum had a point when he said that the team may have “over-prepared” going into …
