31-member Indian contingent to battle across 4 sports – Preview

India is geared up for this year’s first major multi-sport mega event, sending a 31-player contingent to the Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, from April 22 to 30. This will be the sixth edition of the Asian Beach Games, which are returning to the international calendar after a decade-long wait, since the 2016 edition in Da Nang, Vietnam. The games feature 62 medal events across 14 sports, including many unique sports like Aquathlon, Beach Handball, Teqball and Beach Kabaddi. India had won 46 medals, including 12 gold medals, from the first five editions, and this time will compete in 18 medal events across four sports: 3×3 Basketball, Beach Kabaddi, Beach Wrestling, and Sailing. Beach Kabaddi has been the most successful sport for India, having won seven gold medals so far – All five in the women’s and 2 golds in the men’s edition. The Indian men’s basketball team bowed out of the 2026 FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup in the group stage on Friday. Having qualified for the main draw following a three-match unbeaten run in the qualifying round on Wednesday, the Indian cagers were unable to sustain the momentum to advance to the knockouts. The team consisting of Pranav Prince, Harsh Dagar, Arvind Muthu, and Kushal Singh lost both their Group A matches against New Zealand and Qatar. The Indians started well against New Zealand, racing to an early 3-0 lead via Harsh and Arvind. However they committed multiple errors, especially towards the fag end of the match as New Zealand took advantage of the free throws to register a convincing 16-11 victory. Later, pitted against Qatar in a must win encounter, India went down 10-16. They trailed 3-9 in the contest before fighting back briefly to reduce the deficit to four points at 8-12. The Indian men’s basketball team qualified for the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup main draw for a second consecutive year, topping their qualifying round group on Wednesday. The Indian team consisting of Pranav Prince, Harsh Dagar, Arvind Muthu, and Kushal Singh registered victories over Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, and Bahrain to top Group D and qualify for the main draw. Indian men’s team qualify for the main draw after 2 years

Indian men’s 3*3 basketball team has advanced to the main draw of the 2025 FIBA 3*3 Asia Cup, securing a dominating win (21-11) over the Philippines in the final group game in Singapore on Thursday. Indian men won all three of their qualifying group stage matches to top the group amongst two higher ranked teams and return to the main draw of the Asia Cup after missing out for the same last year. The ‘Harsh Dagar Show’ Philippines, ranked 37th in the world, started positively and found some easy layoffs, but then the Indian defense showed some excellent teamwork in their defense using one-on-one marking. Pranav Prince was the star man as he used his reach brilliantly to not only stop the attack of the opposing team but also made a few interceptions to assist his teammate. Youngster Harsh Dagar (10) was the leading scorer for India again.
