India stay in hunt for semis with a win over Bangladesh

The Indian women’s team secured its third win of the tournament in its penultimate group match against Bangladesh at the ICC Women’s T20I World Cup on Thursday. Chasing a total of 137 runs in just 16.5 overs, the team won by 5 wickets against their Asian rivals to stay in the hunt for a semi-final spot from their group. With the win, India has risen to second in the points table with 6 points from four games and will take on Australia on Sunday in a must-win match. Bangladesh got off to a steady start, scoring 40 runs in the power play with just one wicket lost. However, they failed to accelerate in the death overs as India’s spinners took control. Radha Yadav picked up 3 wickets while Sree Charani claimed 2 as India restricted Bangladesh within 150, giving their batters a breathing space. India began the chase aggressively and continued their attacking approach despite losing Smriti Mandhana in the third over, with Shafali Verma scoring a quick-fire half-century. Prema Rawat replaces Shreyanka Patil in Indian squad

India has roped in Prema Rawat as the replacement for the injured Shreyanka Patil at the ongoing 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The replacement was approved by the Event Technical Committee of the World Cup late on Thursday. Patil, who had a breakthrough run in the 2026 Women’s Premier League earlier this year after a long injury layoff, picked up an ankle injury during India’s second group match against Netherlands on Wednesday. Bowling her first over of the match, which India would later go on to win comfortably, Patil rolled her ankle while fielding. She was then stretchered off the field and took no further part in the contest. Rawat, a leg spinner, will now join the Indian team. She is already in England as a part of the India ‘A’ tour and will link up with the squad. The 24-year-old Rawat is uncapped at the international level but has been on the rise in the recent past with her performances for Uttarakhand in the domestic circuit and for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in …

“If you ask Pakistan who they would be most worried about, it is Smriti Mandhana”: Nasser Hussain

Indian women’s cricket team will take on Pakistan in their opening fixture of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in Birmingham on June 14. Speaking during the JioStar Media Day ahead of the big game, ICC expert Nasser Hussain shared his thoughts on India’s fearless approach with the bat, explained why Smriti Mandhana will be critical to her side’s chances in the match, and revealed his semi-final predictions from Group A. “There is obviously a great rivalry across any sport between India and Pakistan, but recently, in men’s and women’s cricket, it has not been particularly close, especially in ICC events. The rivalry has not yet kicked off to the extent of the men’s game, but it is still India vs Pakistan, and it is a format that can cause upsets. So, India will be confident but obviously wary that it only takes Fatima Sana to have a good day, and they could be in trouble. But I think India will be too strong. The way Indian women’s cricket has grown, with the 50-over …

4 matches: 3 wins, 1 NR – DY Patil Stadium, India’s new fortress in Navi Mumbai?

“As soon as the venue shifted from Bengaluru to here, we all started messaging in the group, ‘We were manifesting this and it happened!’” These were Harmanpreet Kaur’s words in the press conference about the DY Patil Stadium after India lifted the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup title late on Sunday. Jemimah Rodrigues, the star Indian batter, also had similar sentiments after her match-winning century against heavyweights Australia in the semi-finals regarding the venue, which is essentially her home ground as a khadoos Mumbai cricketer. Having first hosted a women’s international match only three years ago in December 2022, the DY Patil stadium, located in the suburb of Nerul in Navi Mumbai, has quickly turned into a fan favourite venue within the Indian setup. The fact that the stadium has never disappointed with a large number of fans thronging the arena even during insignificant match days has helped. “The biggest thing is, there has always been a good crowd here [DY Patil] and they are very supportive,” said Harmanpreet. It was no different this …
