Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to protect academic and industrial bio-medical research and development projects through intellectual property filings and patent. Under the agreement, ICMR and TNSCST would jointly protect the exclusive rights of biomedical innovations originating from academic institutions and initiate seamless technology transfer, a press release stated. They would jointly facilitate the process of intellectual property rights filing related to biomedical innovations covering patentability search reports and patent drafting and filing through the Medical Innovations Patent Mitra initiative of ICMR. They would also collaborate to connect inventors with potential investors to enable effective technology transfer and commercialisation of biomedical patents. The MoU was signed by S. The Centre on Thursday asked all states to identify facilities and trained human resources for taking care of both suspected and confirmed mpox cases after India reported its first case of the strain that had last month prompted WHO to declare a public health emergency. In a letter to states and Union territories, Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra said samples from skin lesions of any patient with suspected mpox symptoms should be immediately sent to designated labs. Samples testing positive will be sent to the Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute of Virology (ICMR-NIV) for genome sequencing to determine the clade. Chandra said the World Health Organization (WHO) on August 14 announced that the current outbreak of mpox (previously known as Monkeypox) disease was a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). This is the second time such mpox disease-associated PHEIC has been declared by WHO under the International Health Regulations, 2005, to which India is a signatory. The BMC’s health department has announced it will administer the BCG vaccine to adults as part of a proactive measure to curb tuberculosis (TB). This decision comes amidst a trial study aimed at evaluating the efficacy of the vaccine in TB prevention. The civic body has identified six high-risk groups, aged 18 and above, in the city to take part in this trial. Hackers allegedly tried to breach the website of the apex health research body Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) but their attempts have been failed, according to a government official. The official said that hackers apparently from Hong Kong tried to attack the website of the ICMR around 6,000 times in a span of 24 hours on November 30. The attacks come close to the heels of the alleged ransomware attack that had paralysed AIIMS online services in Delhi. “The contents of the ICMR website are safe. The site is hosted at NIC Data Centre, hence the firewall is from NIC which they regularly update. The attack has been prevented successfully,” the official said. Last month, the server of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi were compromised in a cyberattack.
