Former Pak PM Imran Khan arrested in protest case hours after bail in alleged corruption case | Pakistan News

The chances for the release of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan vanished after he was arrested in a protest case hours after getting bail in a case of alleged corruption, a media report said on Thursday. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday granted him bail in the second Toshakhana case related to the purchase of an expensive Bulgari jewellery set at a throwaway price, igniting hopes of his release. However, hours later, Rawalpindi police arrested him late at night in connection with a case registered at New Town Police Station on terrorism and other charges. The police alleged that Khan, while imprisoned in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, had called for a protest in Rawalpindi on September 28. The Dawn newspaper quoted a police spokesperson as saying that Khan had been detained in the case filed on September 28 and a team has been tasked to probe the charges. The charges include violations of the Anti-Terrorism Act, defying the government ban on public gatherings, obstructing police duty, damaging police vehicles, and endangering public safety. …

Bengaluru school principal held for caning Class 5 student, says she lost her temper | Bangalore News

According to the complaint filed by the student’s father, his daughter came home on Wednesday with bruises and welts on her arms and legs, which she said were the result of being hit with a cane by the principal. “When she returned home from school that evening, I noticed marks on her body. She told us she was beaten up by the principal,” he recounted in his complaint to the Vijayapura police. Kiran has been charged under the Juvenile Justice Act and Section 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). In an initial statement, the girl’s father alleged that Kiran frequently asked students to assist her specially-abled son, who also attends the school. “The principal often assigns her son’s tasks to other students, which they sometimes refuse. Restaurant delivers non-veg momos to vegetarian customer, ordered to pay Rs 5,000 for hurting sentiments | Chandigarh News

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Chandigarh has ordered a Chinese restaurant and food delivery service Zomato Limited to refund Rs 154 and pay Rs 5,000 in compensation to a Chandigarh resident after mistakenly delivering non-vegetarian momos instead of the vegetarian version, causing emotional distress to the family. The complainant, Suryam, said he ordered vegetarian momos and noodles from Sanju Chinese Fast Food in Sector 15, Chandigarh, through Zomato on April 9, 2023, for his minor daughter and elderly mother, for which he paid Rs 154.75. Suryam noted that his family is strictly vegetarian and follows Sanatan Dharma, which is why only vegetarian items were ordered. According to the complaint, when his mother and daughter started eating, Suryam’s mother discovered a bone-like object, which she spit out, realising it was a piece of non-vegetarian food. The incident reportedly caused Suryam’s mother, who has been on depression medication for 20 years, severe emotional distress. The complainant alleged that this mistake deeply impacted the family, and that his attempt to raise the issue with the restaurant …

Chai with faculty, stalls for art therapy: IIT Bombay finds newer ways for mental well-being of students | Mumbai News

Samosa and chai with faculty at hostel, leisure events making student-residents to engage with each other beyond a regular scope of interactions and everyday stalls for animal, art or yoga therapy on campus — these will be some of the new activities by the Student Wellness Centre (SWC) at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay for mental well-being of students. ‘Ironman’ Tejasvi Surya says ‘have become more disciplined… can tackle politics better’ | Political Pulse News

Waking up at 5 am, cycling at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, swimming, a10-km-run at the Nehru Park in Delhi. This was Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya’s routine every morning for the last couple of months. On October 27, Surya became the first Indian MP to participate in — and complete — the Ironman 70.3 race. In eight hours, 27 minutes and 32 seconds, the BJP MP finished all three legs of the challenge: a 1,900-metre swim in the Arabian Sea, followed by 90 km of cycling, and a 21.1-km run. The 70.3 in the title of the challenge refers to the distance covered when converted to miles. From Swami Vivekanand’s teachings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Fit India’ movement, Surya, mostly in the news over controversial statements, is clear about what motivated him to take on the race. Besides, the 33-year-old MP tells The Indian Express, the experience has given him tools to better balance his political commitments, by making him “more disciplined” with his time and “boosting perseverance”. The PM congratulated …

Bombay HC slams NMMC for ‘haphazard urbanisation’, failure to take action against illegal constructions | Mumbai News

Coming down heavily on Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and other authorities for ‘haphazard urbanisation and development’ in the ‘planned city’ and insufficient action against nearly 10, 000 illegal constructions, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday said that it ‘cannot shut its eyes’ to the same and sought expedited actions against errants. The bench also pulled up NMMC, City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) for not forming a coordination committee of officers in charge of their respective special cells to carry out demolition, to avoid conflict about jurisdictional areas, even after lapse of six years since the HC directions to constitute the same. It also warned authorities that if they do not take adequate steps to comply with various directions of the November 2018 HC verdict, it will be compelled to issue contempt notices and summon the CEO and Commissioner of the authorities before it, to show-cause as to why contempt action cannot be taken against them. The HC further expressed concerns over only 28 police personnel being made …

Maharashtra FDA’s functions impacted by staff assignments to election duties | Mumbai News

The staff shortages at the Maharashtra Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), which is already facing nearly a 50 percent shortfall, are further exacerbated by the assignment of senior FDA officers for upcoming Maharashtra state election duties. With the festival season approaching, which requires additional manpower for inspecting potentially adulterated food, the FDA commissioner has urged the state to release some officials from election duties to effectively manage the increased workload. With the FDA operating with significant staff shortages across Maharashtra, the assignment of all 12 drug inspectors and four drug assistant commissioners to election duties has stretched the organisation thin. Consequently, drug regulation in Mumbai will be virtually non-existent for the next three months, resulting in halted medicine sampling, delayed processing of drug-related applications, and a rise in issues with pharmacies operating without prescriptions, as claimed by the FDA officers. The impending festival season has heightened concerns among officials. “Every year before Diwali, we conduct statewide inspections to ensure the quality of sweets and prevent food adulteration, safeguarding consumers from harm. With our remaining workforce, …
