Ashish Chanchlani. | Photo Credit: Ashish Chanchlani Instagram The Supreme Court on Friday (February 21, 2025) sought a response from the Maharashtra and Assam governments on a plea of YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani seeking to quash or transfer to Mumbai an FIR registered in Guwahati in connection with a case of allegedly promoting obscenity in an online show. A Bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh issued a notice and tagged Mr. Chanchlani’s plea with influencer Ranveer Allahbadia’s pending petition. At the outset, the Bench told Mr. Chanchlani’s counsel that he was already granted bail in the matter. The counsel for Mr. Chanchlani admitted that he has got relief but he was against lodging of multiple FIRs in connection with that one particular show. The Bench said it was already hearing the issue and tagged Mr. Chanchlani’s plea. New Delhi: The Supreme Court has given YouTube personality Ranveer Allahbadia – roiled in a row over comments about parents and sex during an episode of stand-up show ‘India’s Got Latent‘ – a measure of relief after it said no further police cases could be filed against him on this matter. The court also said Mr Allahbadia, who claimed death threats to his family and himself, he could approach Maharashtra and/or Assam police for “protection of life and liberty, in case of threats”. He was also told he would not be arrested, by either Maharashtra or Assam cops, so long as he cooperates with the investigation, or on the basis of a third complaint filed in Jaipur. Mr Allahbadia, however, was told to deposit his passport with police in Maharashtra’s Thane, and warned not to try and leave the country without the court’s nod. Allahbadia, who faces investigations by police in several states, had approached the Supreme Court last Friday seeking relief from the various FIRs filed against him over alleged obscene comments made during his guest appearance on the YouTube show.
