YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia has been issued a summons by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell to appear before it on February 24 for questioning in connection with his remarks on ‘India’s Got Latent’ show that created an uproar across the country.
The agency is probing the case against Allahbadia and India’s Got Latent show host Samay Raina after the former’s “watch your parents have sex” remark stirred a massive row, triggering a number of FIRs against him in various parts of the country.
Samay Raina Asked To Appear Tomorrow
The Cyber Cell also asked Raina to appear in person by February 18, however, the “comedian” requested to record his statement virtually via video conferencing. The agency denied his request.
Raina had cited his absence in the country and his ongoing trip to the US as the reason for deference. He said that he would not be able to return to India until next month.
Denying his request, the Cyber Cell asked him to appear in person by February 18.
The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has so far sent summons to 40 people. “Some people have incorrect email addresses, so we have sent the summons to their social media accounts. So far, statements from three individuals have been recorded,” sources said.
“Raghu Ram has clearly stated that only Samay Raina is behind this and that he was the one deciding the language used,” sources added.
NCW’s Fresh Summons
The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Monday issued fresh summons to YouTubers Allahbadia, Raina, and Apoorva Mukhija over their derogatory remarks on the now-deleted video.
While Allahbadia and Mukhija have now been summoned on March 6, Raina has been summoned on March 11.
The NCW had sent them summons for February 17 while also expressing concerns over the “watch your parents have sex” remark by Allahbadia on the show.
As the controversy erupted, Allahbadia issued an apology in a video message on social media, however, that did not cool things down against him as several police complaints followed in various parts of the country.
He also claimed receiving death threats and said that he was scared. He assured in an Instagram post that he was not running away and was willing to cooperate with the authorities in the probe.
His remarks had come after the teams of Mumbai and Assam Police arrived at his residence in Mumbai and found it locked. The officials had also said that his phone was switched off.
