Industry leaders hail West Bengal Budget’s push on infrastructure, land reform and health

Prominent industry leaders of West Bengal on Monday (June 22, 2026) welcomed the first budget of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the State presented by Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta, lauding its emphasis on industry, reconsidering land ceiling, infrastructure and healthcare. Mehul Mohanka, chairman, Confederation of Indian Industry Eastern Region, called it “a forward-looking roadmap for infrastructure-led growth and industrial competitiveness,” adding that litigation-free land was critical to large investments. “The emphasis on metro rail expansion, including studies for new metro rail projects in Durgapur, Asansol and Siliguri, is a welcome step, as improved urban mobility will support workforce movement, ease congestion and strengthen productivity in key industrial centres,” Mr. Mohanka said. Mr. Dasgupta in the budget proposed deep-sea port at Dadanpatrabar in Purba Medinipur on a public-private basis, a greenfield airport on 1,000–1,500 acres near Kalyani to ease congestion at Kolkata airport, and a feasibility study for metro links between Durgapur–Asansol and Siliguri–Jalpaiguri. Harshavardhan Neotia, chairman, Ambuja Neotia Group said that what is particularly encouraging about this Budget is that it looks at …

SpaceX Passes Amazon in Market Value as AI Infrastructure Bets Surge

SpaceX Passes Amazon in Market Value as AI Infrastructure Bets Surge

SpaceX’s valuation has moved faster than its enterprise roadmap. The company briefly passed Amazon in market value on June 16, 2026, after a post-IPO rally pushed investors toward a sweeping bet on launch services, Starlink, defense work, and AI infrastructure. For enterprise technology buyers, the immediate case still rests on products they can evaluate today: connectivity, launch capacity, contracts, service terms, and vendor concentration risk. Why investors are pricing SpaceX like an AI infrastructure company SpaceX’s record IPO bundled several businesses into one market story: launch services, satellite broadband, defense work, and AI infrastructure. The company priced its IPO at $135 per share, raising $75 billion before beginning Nasdaq trading under the ticker SPCX on June 12. By June 16, SpaceX had briefly surpassed Amazon in market capitalization. Amazon generated $78 billion in net income on $717 billion in revenue in 2025. SpaceX, by comparison, reported a roughly $4.9 billion net loss on $18.7 billion in revenue. SpaceX is being valued less like an aerospace company than an AI infrastructure platform. Investors are pricing it …

Why 300 Million Users See Binance as the Foundational Infrastructure of Crypto

Why 300 Million Users See Binance as the Foundational Infrastructure of Crypto

In the fast-moving world of global finance, labels often fail to keep pace with reality. For the better part of a decade, “crypto exchange” was the standard term used to describe any platform where digital assets changed hands. But as we move further into 2026, that definition feels increasingly narrow. For the 300 million users now registered on the platform, Binance has evolved into something far more structural. It has become a foundational set of rails—a global infrastructure—that the crypto economy relies on for liquidity, security, and real-world utility. With 300 million users, Binance has become essential infrastructure for the crypto economy, focusing on liquidity and security. (Binance) This transition from a simple trading hub to a piece of sovereign infrastructure isn’t just a matter of corporate growth; it is a reflection of where the industry’s “plumbing” actually lives. Reaching a milestone of 300 million users is a massive vote of confidence in the underlying systems that keep the digital economy moving. In a joint year-end address, Binance Co-CEOs Yi He and Richard Teng noted …

World Athletics VP Adille Sumariwalla makes shocking claim on athletics infrastructure in country

4 min readApr 18, 2026 08:41 PM IST Athletics Federation of India (AFI) spokesperson Adille Sumariwalla has made a startling claim that 90 percent of the synthetic tracks used in the country currently are substandard in terms of material, laying and marking. Sumariwalla added that the governing body was unhappy with the infrastructure quality that has been certified in India, adding that the federation would look to ensure that all requirements are met. “I’m not going to name the tracks, but I can tell you 90% plus tracks in India are substandard material-wise, laying-wise, marking-wise. We had a meeting with World Athletics in Tokyo (last year during World Championships), they showed us some data, which was quite shocking,” Sumariwalla said during a virtual press conference. “The material used is substandard, the process is substandard, the granules used are substandard, the laying methodology is substandard.” During the Annual General meeting of AFI in Kohima on April 14 and 15, the federation decided to get involved in the track certification. “They (World Athletics) were not happy with …

Anaicut: Predominantly tribal constituency long plagued by neglect of basic infrastructure

M. Duraisamy, a tribal headsman in Kurumalai hills, said they feel helpless watching their children trek through forests to reach their schools | Photo Credit: SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT Tribals are at the core of Anaicut Assembly constitutency that encompasses hillocks like Peenjamanthai, Jarthankollai, Kurumalai and Palampattu in Jawadhu Hills in Vellore district. Basic civic needs like bitumen roads, water supply, electricity connection and a government hospital still remain a distant dream for residents in the hills. Formed in 1977, Anaicut Assembly seat covers more than 70 farming and tribal villages, mostly in the hills that come under Vellore and Anaicut panchayat unions. Residents of many tribal hamlets in these hills have to walk on muddy pathways to reach towns and villages in the plains. “A proper bitumen road is a pre-requisite to envisage other basic amenities like water supply, power connection and fair price shop. Raw materials to build these civic amenities could be transported only when there is a proper road,” said M. Annamalai, president, Athiyur village panchayat. Published – April 10, 2026 12:34 am …
