In fact, entire Palnadu district itself is reeling under water stress and backwardness. Telugu Desam Party MLA Julakanti Brahmananda Reddy told The Hindu on Tuesday (March 11), during the Assembly budget session that out of the total sanctioned funds of around ₹1200 crore under Jal Jeevan Mission for providing drinking water in rural areas of Palnadu district, the government allocated more than ₹600 crore for water needs of Macherla alone. He represents Macherla in the Assembly. Mr. Brahmananda Reddy said that Macherla town also needed funds for drinking water and the State government assured to provide them. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Rajasthan has registered an FIR against former minister Mahesh Joshi and 21 others in connection with the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scam. The former minister has been accused of misusing his official powers. Joshi was the cabinet minister for the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) in the previous Congress government. The JJM’s financial advisor, chief engineer, additional chief engineer, superintendent engineer and executive engineer have been named in the FIR. The alleged scam pertains to alleged financial irregularities and corruption in awarding contracts related to the scheme. The central government’s Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water through household tap connections and is being implemented in Rajasthan by the PHED. According to sources, the ACB got a lead from multiple email IDs in the case. According to the ACB, interrogation of executive engineer Mayalal Saini in Behror revealed corruption in JJM works. A total of 274 contractors will face action over alleged delay in carrying out the work under the `Jal Jeevan Mission` in Maharashtra`s Latur district, an official said on Sunday. Jal Jeevan Mission is a central programme envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual tap connections to all households in rural India. The officials said there were complaints of delay in the work under the programme. He said that Chief Executive Officer of Latur Zilla Parishad Anmol Sagar has ordered action as per government rules against 274 such contractors for failing to do their work on time. In August last year, Latur MP Sudhakar Shrangare had demanded a probe alleging sub-standard work in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme in the district.  Meanwhile, a total of 21 illegal water connections were disconnected using a JCB machine and other machinery in Latur district on Sunday under a special campaign, an official said. Over the last three years, the state has received 10 to 15 per cent of the funds allocated for it under the Jal Jeevan Mission from the Union government, the state said in the Assembly on Friday. Water Supply Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya was replying to a starred question raised by Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar on Har Ghar Jal Yojana under Jal Jeevan Mission. Under the Mission, Gujarat has received Rs 255796.08 lakh in 2021-22, Rs 359016.32 lakh in 2022-23 and Rs 149142.50 lakh in 2023-24 (till December 31,2023) from the Centre. However, of this, Rs 221942.38 lakh was used and Rs 33853.70 lakh was not in 2021-22. Similarly, in 2022-23, while Rs 312933.38 lakh was used, Rs 46082.94 lakh was not used. In 2023-24, Rs 134915.9 lakh was used and Rs 14226.60 lakh remained unused. These unused amounts were used in the following years, the government stated. As many as fifteen contractors have been blacklisted, while 387 others have been fined over delays of `Jal Jeevan Mission` work in Maharashtra`s Nanded district, officials said on Thursday, reported the PTI. They said that the contractors had allegedly failed to start the work that was awarded to them, as per the PTI.  The Centre`s Jal Jeevan Mission is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India. The mission started in the Nanded district in September 2020, and 1,234 works are now being undertaken under this scheme to provide water to households in 1,540 villages, said an official release. A total of 387 contractors have not taken up their work at the required pace. Hence, the Nanded Zilla Parishad has imposed a fine of Rs 500 per day on these 387 contractors till they complete the allotted work, an official said, according to the PTI.
