How Iran shot down the US F-15 fighter jet. New report details Third Khordad operation

Iran has claimed that it deployed a newly developed air defence system to target a U.S. fighter jet. The audacious assertion was made by Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya joint military command on state media. Despite U.S. claims of degraded Iranian missile and drone capabilities, Iran asserts advancements in air defence technology amidst ongoing conflict. (Photo by US Airforce / AFP) (AFP) Iranian state media said that a joint military command spokeswoman stated the nation would “definitely achieve full control” over its skies, Reuters reported. ‘We’re in war’: Trump says downing US jet won’t affect negotiations with Iran | World News

President Donald Trump speaks about the Iran war from the Cross Hall of the White House. (AP) US President Donald Trump has said the loss of a US fighter jet over Iran will not affect ongoing diplomatic efforts, insisting that negotiations can continue despite the escalation. In a brief interview with NBC News, Trump played down the impact of the incident, saying: “No, not at all. No, it’s war. We’re in war.” The remarks mark his first public response since a US aircraft was brought down during the conflict, at a time when military operations and back-channel diplomacy are unfolding simultaneously. The president declined to share details about the ongoing search-and-rescue mission, calling it a sensitive operation, and voiced frustration with media coverage. He suggested some reporting had failed to reflect the complexity of the situation on the ground. According to US media reports, one crew member from the downed jet has been recovered and is receiving treatment, while efforts are still under way to locate the second. The aircraft has been identified as an …

US F-15E fighter jet downed over Iran, 1 of 2 crew rescued. What happens next?

A US fighter jet has been shot down over Iran, and search-and-rescue efforts have so far recovered one of two crew members who ejected, Reuters reported, citing a US official. Two US officials quoted by Reuters said the aircraft was an F-15E fighter jet, which has two seats: one for a pilot and the second for a weapons systems officer. (Bloomberg File) It is the first known incident of its kind in the nearly five-week-old US-Iran war. The incident also brings a new kind of pressure on US President Donald Trump as the prospect of a US pilot being alive and on the run inside Iran raises the stakes for Washington in a conflict that, according to opinion polls, has struggled to win popular support among Americans. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump had been briefed, without confirming any details of the incident. The Pentagon and US Central Command (CENTCOM) have not commented on the matter. Two US officials quoted by Reuters said the aircraft was an F-15E fighter jet, which has two …

Commercial LPG prices hiked 10%, jet fuel rates up 9% for domestic airlines

State-run oil marketing firms hiked the price of commercial liquified petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders by more than 10% in major metro cities on Wednesday (April 1, 2026), while the price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) was more than doubled for international air travel and chartered flights. However, there was some respite for travellers flying within the country as ATF rates for scheduled domestic carriers were hiked by less than 9%. IndiGo, which currently holds two-thirds of the domestic aviation market, responded by hiking its fuel surcharge up to ₹950 for domestic flights and ₹10,000 for international flights. The union government defended the hikes, noting that its oil marketing companies (OMCs) are bearing the brunt of the spike in global oil prices, absorbing losses of ₹380 per cylinder on average. Jet fuel prices more than doubled to Rs 2.07 lakh/kl, commercial LPG up Rs 195.5

Price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF), or jet fuel, was more than doubled to a record Rs 2.07 lakh per kilolitre on Wednesday, while commercial LPG rates were raised by Rs 195.50 per cylinder, mirroring the surge in global oil prices linked to the widening West Asia conflict. ATF price in Delhi was hiked by Rs 110,703.08 per kilolitre, or 114.5 per cent, to Rs 207,341.22 per kl, according to state-owned fuel retailers. This is the first time ever that ATF prices have crossed Rs 2 lakh per kl-mark. The previous peak was in 2022 when rates were hiked by Rs 1.1 lakh per kl after oil prices surged after Russia invaded Ukraine. This is the second monthly increase in rates. Prices on March 1 were hiked by 5.7 per cent (Rs 5,244.75 per kl). The rising prices will further strain airlines, which are already burning more fuel in taking longer routes for flying to Western destinations because of the airspace closure due to the war. Fuel makes up around 40 per cent of an …

As jet fuel spikes, govt removes airfare caps imposed after December cancellation mess| India News

The Indian government has withdrawn the temporary cap on domestic airfares imposed in the aftermath of the December 2025 flight disruption crisis involving IndiGo, marking a return to market-driven pricing at a time when jet fuel prices are increasing due to the West Asia war. Govt lifts curbs on ticket prices, flags action if fares spike again (ANI) Operations in terms of staffing, a key issue in December, have also stabilised across the aviation sector. It was learnt on Saturday that, in an order dated March 20, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said the fare cap, introduced on December 6, 2025, was aimed at containing an “abnormal surge” in ticket prices and safeguarding passenger interests during a period of constrained capacity. The ministry added that the situation has since “stabilised”, with restoration of capacity and normalisation of operations across the sector. Following a review, it said, the fare cap will stand withdrawn with effect from March 23, 2026. The caps were introduced when widespread disruptions caused by mass cancellations of IndiGo flights triggered a sharp …

West Asia conflict: Here`s how jet price surge can impact your air travel plans

The ongoing US-Israel War with Iran, which escalated in late February, has led to a significant surge in airline ticket prices affecting Indian travellers. Jet fuel prices have escalated — from around USD 85-90 per barrel to USD 150-200 in many markets—following supply disruptions in the Gulf, near-paralysis of the Strait of Hormuz, and fears of prolonged shortages. For India, the spike is compounded by heavy reliance on Middle East air corridors for westbound flights to Europe, the United Kingdom (UK), and North America. Closures of regional airspace, rerouted flights, and added war-risk insurance premiums are adding as much as Rs 20,000–35,000 per passenger on some routes. West Asia conflict: Domestic airlines report losses worth Rs 570 crore Domestic airlines have reported losses from over 1,770 international flight cancellations, amounting to roughly Rs 570 crore. Operational pressures from high aviation turbine fuel (ATF) taxes and value-added tax (VAT) in major cities such as Delhi and Mumbai are further straining carriers. Domestic fares have risen about 13 per cent year-on-year, while international routes affected by West …
