India have withdrawn from the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup, with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) choosing to prioritise the national team’s October 3 friendly against five-time world champions Brazil. AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey confirmed the decision on Wednesday, citing India’s existing commitment to the Brazil Football Federation as well as scheduling constraints during the September 21 to October 6 FIFA international window. “We are unable to participate in the FIFA ASEAN Cup due to our commitment with the Brazil football federation,” Chaubey told HT. “There were technical issues too since only four games can be played during the window.” AIFF eyes two more friendlies India were drawn alongside hosts Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. AIFF urges Tata to reconsider Jamshedpur FC’s ISL exit

All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Chaubey has urged the Tata group to reconsider its “shocking” decision of withdrawing Jamshedpur FC from the embattled Indian Super League (ISL). The Tata group has made it clear that JFC’s exit from the ISL was a long-planned strategic decision to ensure that the company returns to its core ideal of grassroots football development. Tata Steel vice President (Corporate Services) D B Sundara Ramam has also insisted that the move has “nothing to do” with the uncertainty surrounding the ISL’s commercial future and would not be reconsidered. However, Chaubey said the AIFF would still hope for a rethink by the legacy corporate house. “AIFF would be happy if Tata remains in football, especially in senior top tier football. If an AIFF request or application can change their mind…the AIFF would like to appeal that for the interest of the players and football, Tata should remain in the senior football league,” Chaubey told PTI in an interview. “The AIFF welcomes any suggestion (from them) and is ready to incorporate …

Valanka Alemao alleges harassment by Kalyan Chaubey, AIFF denies claims

A fresh controversy has emerged within the All India Football Federation, with Women’s Committee head Valanka Alemao accusing AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey of harassment during an Executive Committee meeting in New Delhi. In a formal communication addressed to committee members, Alemao alleged that she was “heckled and harassed” during the meeting held on March 29 at the Football House. Detailing the incident, Alemao wrote, “I wish to place on record the entirely disgusting behaviour of the AIFF President Mr Kalyan Chaubey, Vice President Mr N. A. Haris and Deputy Secretary General M Satyanarayan. I feel deeply prejudiced and I found that several attempts were made by the President to suppress my voice.” She further stated, “The President made remarks against me which were unnecessary and disrespectful. He along with the DSG raised his tone time and again beyond an acceptable decibel with the intention to intimidate me. Throughout the course of the meeting, I was consistently targeted.” Federation rejects claims, …

AIFF stares at Rs 25.9 crore deficit

The problems of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) are aplenty, the latest being a revenue deficit of ₹25.9 crore till June this year. 2024, the year Indian football lost its footing

2024, the year Indian football lost its footing

2024 promised so much and presented numerous opportunities but as the dust settles, the year turned out to be a damp squib. The men’s senior national team played 11 games, lost 6 and drew 5. In all, they scored just 4 goals scored and conceded 15. The last time India hasn’t won a single match over the course of a calendar year was back in 2014. What’s more Igor Stimac was ousted and Sunil Chhetri hung up his boots. Meanwhile, the women’s national team crashed out of the SAFF Women’s Championship 2024, the standout event of the year, after losing in the semi-finals to Nepal. Additionally, turbulence prevailed over the domestic circuit in the country as well. Clearly, there wasn’t much to write home about as far as Indian football was concerned in the year. IOA’s November 10 Special General Meeting Postponed Indefinitely

IOA’s November 10 Special General Meeting Postponed Indefinitely

The internal strife within the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) took a new turn on October 28 as the Executive Council (EC) members opposing IOA President PT Usha postponed the Special General Meeting (SGM) set for November 10. This follows a recent postponement directed by Usha for the originally scheduled October 25 SGM. The indefinite delay, attributed to “unforeseen circumstances,” marks yet another instance of friction within the IOA, as the body grapples with leadership disagreements and competing directives. The postponement was communicated by joint secretary Kalyan Chaubey, who is recognized by the dissenting EC members as the acting CEO, despite Usha’s appointment of Raghuram Iyer as CEO earlier this year. In his latest notice, Chaubey canceled both the October 25 SGM and the November 10 rescheduling. He stated that a new notice with a revised agenda would be issued in due time. The original meeting had several agenda points, including a motion of no-confidence against Usha. Usha’s agenda reportedly included a review of Iyer’s appointment, which has been at the center of the ongoing dispute. …

IOA President PT Usha accuses Kalyan Chaubey of impersonating the acting CEO

IOA President PT Usha accuses Kalyan Chaubey of impersonating the acting CEO

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha has condemned an unauthorized agenda issued by Kalyan Chaubey, Joint Secretary of the IOA. Chaubey, impersonating the Acting CEO, allegedly used official IOA stationery to call for a Special General Meeting (SGM) on October 25, 2024, in violation of the IOA’s constitution. In a strongly worded press release, Usha asserted, “This action is both illegal and in violation of the IOA Constitution. The current and only CEO of the IOA is Mr. Raghuram Iyer, who officially joined the IOA on 15 January 2024.” She explained that despite resistance from certain members of the IOA Executive Council (EC), including withholding Iyer’s salary for the past nine months, Iyer continues to serve as the legitimate CEO, with recognition from both the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), Government of India. PT Usha clarified that she had convened the SGM with proper notice on October 3, 2024, and emphasized, “I have not authorized Mr. Kalyan Chaubey to convene any meeting or promulgate an …

To address Indian football’s height issue, AIFF turns to Rajasthan | Football News

Indian football has historically struggled to find tall players, but now the national federation is targeting specific regions in the country to address the issue. Most of the country’s top players — including the recently-retired Sunil Chhetri and current sensation Lallianzuala Chhangte — haven’t been among the tallest. It’s a disadvantage in set-pieces and a midfield lacking muscle often gets easily run over. To rectify this anomaly, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) is looking west — towards Rajasthan, to be precise. AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey said he has tasked club officials in Rajasthan to scout for tall players in the state that doesn’t have a rich football history. “During one of my trips around the country watching football, I spotted that players from Rajasthan would stand out because of their height. That made me explore the idea of keeping an eye on them. So I spoke to officials of the Rajasthan state association to look for 14-15-year-old boys and develop their skills. There is a high probability that they will be close to 6’3″ …
