Dhanendra Kumar, the founding chairman of India’s anti-trust watchdog, died after a suspected air-conditioner blast triggered a fire at his Hauz Khas residence late Wednesday night, police said. His son sustained injuries due to smoke inhalation while attempting to rescue him. New Delhi: A 33-year-old Delhi Police head constable had a narrow escape after being overpowered by two unidentified men who snatched his service pistol and fired at him inside the Rose Garden in south Delhi’s Hauz Khas, police said on Monday. After missing the target, the assailants then threatened to kill the constable if he pursued them. The incident occurred around 2 pm on Thursday when head constable, Raj Kumar Yadav, was on patrol duty. He was informed that the two men, aged between 35 and 40, were consuming narcotic substances near the walking track inside the park, police added. The Hauz Khas police in Delhi have filed a fresh case after a woman doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), who had earlier filed a rape case against another doctor at the hospital, alleged that she was being threatened to drop the case. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the 39-year-old woman said that on Friday, when she was on her way to the hospital, she received two phone calls from an unknown number. “The caller threatened me and asked me to take back the rape case I had filed… He said he will shoot me dead and also said he knew about my whereabouts and timings. I was shocked, scared and immediately dialled 112 and informed the police,” she stated. The woman said she informed the local police station as well as the Hauz Khas police where the case was registered. Based on her complaint, the police registered a case under sections 232(1) and 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) which pertain to threatening and intimidating a person. …

Delhi traffic advisory: Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory about the arrangements and restrictions that will be in place on the eve of New Year celebration across the national capital, especially Connaught Place. A senior officer said traffic personnel will be deployed in adequate strength at various areas of the city. The main focus will be at the markets, near malls, and the areas where people come for celebrations like Connaught Place, Hauz Khas etc. Delhi traffic Police has made special traffic arrangements for the areas in the vicinity of Connaught Place area as a huge crowd is expected to visit the area to celebrate the eve of New Year. Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh has sent two separate legal notices to two Delhi-based real estate firms invoking arbitration clauses over alleged violation of his privacy rights in promotion of construction projects and for delayed delivery of possession of a dwelling unit to him in the national capital. The family of Vaqeel Hasan, the Uttarakhand tunnel rescue hero whose house was demolished by the DDA earlier this week, have claimed they had not received any notice prior to the exercise even as they rejected offers for an accommodation from different quarters, insisting they only want to stay in Khajuri Khas — a locality they have been residing in since over a decade. In November 2023, Hasan had led a team of “rat-hole” miners, which rescued 41 construction workers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel. “We did not receive any document from the DDA. When we asked, they said why should they issue a notice for their own land,” said Shabana, Hasan’s wife.
