There was a lot of buzz in the arena when Lakshya Sen arrived for his first-round match at the 2025 India Open on Wednesday. Facing Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chun-Yui, the Indian was expected to progress through to the second round but to everyone’s shock, he succumbed to the Taiwanese, losing in straight games (21-15, 21-10). The 23-year-old, who finished fourth in the Paris Olympics, also exited early in the recently concluded Malaysia Open, losing in the opening round to Chi Yu Jen. “Couldn’t play my game” Speaking to the reporters after his defeat, Sen couldn’t fault his preparations leading up to the tournament. “I think couldn’t play my game and yeah, overall the movements were a bit slow today. But yeah, credit to him (Chun-Yui). He played a really good game,” he said.
