How Chinese Wang Zhiyi finally defeated An Se Young at All England after 10 straight losses

How Chinese Wang Zhiyi finally defeated An Se Young at All England after 10 straight losses

Wang Zhiyi’s 21-15, 21-19 victory over badminton’s unofficial juggernaut, World another 1 An Se-young, completed a year of eternally trying to beat the best women’s singles shuttler. The Chinese and the Korean had played out a stunning All England final last year, but Zhiyi had suffered confidence-sapping losses thereafter as Se-young continued to roll over all her opponents. Even the Chinese National Games had become an occasion to taunt Zhiyi about how she might win, but only because Se-young wasn’t across the court. But the Chinese persisted. Every Federer needs a Nadal, and it is important for womens badminton – at its weakest in years – that Se-young finds a challenger who can push her. Losing 10 finals wasn’t very inspiring. But since last year’s entertaining All England final, the Chinese hadn’t stopped trying to crack the An Se-young puzzle. Significantly, Wang Zhiyi had lost the German Open Finals to her junior Han Qian Xi. A lucky break did fetch up when her nemesis PV Sindhu of India got stuck at the Dubai airport, caught …

Farmers suffering losses after India–US trade deal: Maharashtra Congress chief

Congress organised a farmers’ protest march from Kalmanuri to Hingoli in Maharashtra on Monday, led by party’s state chief Harshwardhan Sapkal. The march, titled ‘Shetkari Sangharsh Padyatra (Farmers’ Struggle March),’ was organised to highlight issues faced by farmers and to protest against what the party described as anti-farmer policies of the Narendra Modi-led Centre. According to Sapkal, prices of agricultural produce have declined after the trade agreement between India and the United States (US), resulting in losses for farmers. “As the trade agreement with the US was signed, the prices of agricultural produce across the country have fallen. Farmers growing fruits are also facing significant losses,” he said while addressing the media. Sapkal alleged that the Centre was responsible for the situation and accused PM Modi of compromising the interests of Indian farmers. “Narendra Modi has surrendered before the US and has put the country up for sale,” he claimed. Middle East war jitters: ₹4k-cr basmati cargo stuck; Punjab & Haryana exporters fear heavy losses

Middle East war jitters: ₹4k-cr basmati cargo stuck; Punjab & Haryana exporters fear heavy losses

As Middle East turmoil persists, basmati exporters from Punjab and Haryana face fresh trouble with cargo vessels seeking offloading of consignments and insurers withdrawing cover for over 4 lakh tonnes of basmati worth ₹3,500– ₹4,000 crore (approx $40milion) in transit. A basmati exporter pegged losses to nearly ₹7,500 crore due to stock of premium grain being stuck at different unknown location and the scenario. According to the data from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), India exports 70% basmati grain to the Middle East, and a major share belongs to Iran. The annual trade is worth over ₹50,000 crore. According to Ranjit Singh Jossan, vice-president of rice exporters association, the rising geopolitical tensions have disrupted global maritime transportation, leaving Indian exporters grappling with unprecedented challenges. “Almost all major international shipping lines have suspended fresh bookings. Vessels transiting through the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean toward various global destinations have reportedly begun offloading containers at intermediary foreign ports instead of proceeding to their final destinations,” he said. He claimed that companies …

Senate ignores US losses, gives Trump free hand to wage ‘illegal’ Iran war as army struggles in Gulf

Published on Mar 05, 2026 01:56 pm IST Senate Republicans blocked a major attempt to halt Donald Trump’s escalating war against Iran, rejecting a war powers resolution that would have required congressional approval for further U.S. military action. The measure failed in the United States Senate by a 47–53 vote, highlighting deep divisions in Washington over the rapidly expanding Middle East conflict. The legislation aimed to reassert Congress’ constitutional authority over war decisions and limit the president’s ability to launch additional strikes without lawmakers’ approval. The vote came just days after the Trump administration ordered surprise strikes on Iranian targets, triggering a dangerous escalation across the region. As tensions rise, lawmakers from both parties are demanding answers about the scope of the mission, the risks to American forces, and whether the United States has a clear exit strategy.   News / Videos / World News / Senate ignores US losses, gives Trump free hand to wage ‘illegal’ Iran war as army struggles in Gulf Disclaimer: We do not own any of the content, ideas, images, …

11 losses in 12 matches puts Indian men’s team under scanner

11 losses in 12 matches puts Indian men’s team under scanner

19 goals conceded, 5 scored. A goal difference of -14 in just four matches. The Indian men’s hockey team endured a week straight out of hell during the Rourkela leg of the 2025-26 FIH Pro League season in front of a packed home crowd at the world’s largest seated hockey arena — the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium. This was just an extension to their sorry run in last season, where they lost seven consecutive matches. India then had a genuine shot at title after a commendable home leg, before it all unraveled in Europe. They just about managed to avoid relegation last year, snapping their losing streak with a win over Belgium in their final match of the tour. Despite the disappointing outing, there wasn’t any panic or knee-jerk reactions. It was a post Olympic-year and teams usually tend to take things slow. The Asian Cup triumph just months later in Rajgir covered up the Pro League wounds. However unlike last year in Europe, the performance in Rourkela has set the alarm bells ringing. …
