Surat bus crash: Kin provide blood samples for DNA matching | Ahmedabad News

A DAY after seven persons, including four women, were killed and several injured after a bus caught fire following a head-on collision with another bus near Bardoli town in Gujarat’s Surat district on Tuesday, the police are facing another challenge – identification of the deceased. As of Wednesday evening, only the body of Ghanshyam Raju Barkale, who was the driver of the bus that caught fire and hailed from Jalgaon in Maharashtra, could be identified. The Maharashtra State Transport bus was bound for Surat from Jamer Bus Depot in Jalgaon. With the bodies severely charred, the Bardoli rural police on Wednesday took blood samples of four individuals, who are relatives of people who were on board the bus and are missing, for DNA tests. The bus that caught fire ran on compressed natural gas or CNG, which was previously reported and confirmed police. Four men riding a motorcycle were killed after a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus allegedly rammed into their vehicle in Junnar taluka of Pune district on Sunday night, police said. The accident took place near Jivandeep Hotel in Dingore village at around 8 pm on the Ahilyanagar–Kalyan highway. The MSRTC bus was operating on the Vitthalwadi–Pathardi route when it collided with the motorcycle, officials said. A Shivshahi luxury bus caught fire near the Talegaon toll post on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway on Sunday. No casualties were reported in the incident. The Shivshahi bus of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) was taking passengers from Swargate depot in Pune city to Kalyan when the incident happened. There were 12 passengers in the bus. Around 8.15 am, the rear side of the bus caught fire. A person travelling in a private vehicle coming from behind saw the fire and informed the bus driver. The bus driver immediately stopped the bus and the passengers were evacuated. Mumbai Central Bus Stand to undergo concretisation from Dec 23 | Mumbai News

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will start concreting work at the Mumbai Central Bus Stand from Monday to improve infrastructure and address long-standing operational challenges. The project, part of a state-wide initiative to modernise 183 bus depots, will be completed within the next two months. The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), which has allocated ₹600 crore for modernising bus stations across the state. At Mumbai Central, approximately 1,900 square metres of the bus stand will be concreted at an estimated cost of Rs 1.64 crore. Currently, around 155 buses from depots outside Mumbai operate daily from Mumbai Central, carrying thousands of passengers. However, buses from the Mumbai Central depot will continue to operate from the existing premises. These services will be temporarily rerouted to other bus stations to facilitate uninterrupted operations during the concretisation work. The phased re-routing is intended to minimize disruption for passengers while ensuring smooth operations during the construction period.
