Manipur violence: Amid the ongoing violence in Manipur, the state government announced that all schools in Manipur will remain closed on September 9 and 10 (Monday and Tuesday). The Directorate of Education has issued an order stating that all government, private, and central schools will remain closed on September 9 and 10. As per the official order, the decision has been taken citing the safety of the students and the teachers.  The northeastern has experienced a fresh wave of violence following a deadly rocket attack that killed one person on Friday, September 6. Forced to leave their State after clashes broke out last year, that’s the impassioned plea from Manipuris who fled to other parts of the country to escape the violence and long to vote in the Lok Sabha election but can’t because there is no such provision. Displaced people living in relief camps in conflict-hit Manipur will be able to vote in the coming elections beginning April 19. However, there is no such arrangement for those outside the State unable to return home because they feel it’s still not safe. And officials say getting them to vote is just not feasible. Manipur has traditionally seen a very high voter turnout with more than 82% polling recorded in the 2019 elections. Army called in amid fresh tension in Manipur

File photo | Photo Credit: PTI The Army was called in as fresh tension mounted in Manipur on Tuesday and four columns of the Assam Rifles were deployed in Imphal East after a senior police officer was abducted allegedly by cadres of the Arambai Tenggol, a Meitei organisation, from his residence, officials said. The officer, Additional Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar, posted in the operations wing of the Manipur Police, was rescued after a swift action by police and security forces, the officials said. The officer has been admitted to a hospital where his condition is stated to be stable. Giving details of the incident that took place around 7 pm on Tuesday, the officials said that a group of cadres owing allegiance to the Arambai Tenggol attacked the house of Kumar at Wangkhei in Imphal East.
