Among them are Manchester-based bands Oasis and New Order, along with music icons like Mariah Carey, Cyndi Lauper and The White Stripes. Notably, half of this year’s nominees, including Billy Idol, Chubby Checker and Joe Cocker, are being considered for the first time. To qualify, an artist or band must have released their debut song at least 25 years before nomination.
