3 min readMohaliUpdated: Mar 22, 2026 11:06 PM IST The controversial proposal for mechanical sweeping of Mohali’s internal ‘C’ roads has once again been tabled for discussion in the Municipal Corporation’s House meeting scheduled for March 24. The same proposal had earlier been unanimously rejected by councillors, raising fresh questions over its reintroduction and the administrative process. According to information, the proposal originated after a review meeting held by the Local Government Department in Sector 35, Chandigarh, where directions were issued to implement mechanical sweeping of ‘C’ roads in major cities across Punjab. Proposal highlights: • Total length of ‘C’ roads: 303.44 km• Initial proposal (both sides cleaning): 606.88 km coverage • Daily cleaning target (earlier): 101.15 km• Estimated cost for 3 years (initial): ₹8.21 crore Subsequently, during technical evaluation by the Committee of Chief Engineers, the proposal was revised. The estimated cost was reduced to ₹3,91,84,380, and approval was granted for cleaning only one side of the roads instead of both. Dakar Rally 2026: Sanjay Takale’s campaign ends with mechanical failure

Dakar Rally 2026: Sanjay Takale’s campaign ends with mechanical failure

Indian rally driver Sanjay Takale has withdrawn from the Dakar Rally 2026, officially ending his participation in the Dakar Classic category after a major mechanical issue forced an early halt. Takale, competing alongside Maxime Raud of France, retired following an engine-related failure encountered upon arrival at the bivouac after Stage 3. The issue could not be resolved, bringing their run in the event to an end. The withdrawal came at a particularly unfortunate stage as Takale was leading the H3 class (P1) at the time. He had delivered an exceptional performance in the opening stages, topping the Prologue and maintaining class leadership through Stages 1, 2, and 3. Speaking after the withdrawal, Takale said, “This is a very tough way to end our Dakar. We were in a strong position and leading the H3 class, but unfortunately the engine issue meant we could not continue. That’s the nature of Dakar, sometimes it tests the machine more than the driver. I’m happy of the way we performed in the opening stages and grateful to the entire …

Doctors perform mechanical thrombectomy at city hospital

Doctors at Rela Hospital in Chennai have successfully performed a mechanical thrombectomy, a catheter-based procedure used to physically extract a blood clot from the lung artery. According to a press release, the procedure was performed on a 42-year-old patient, who had suffered an injury to his left leg and subsequently developed deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a condition in which a blood clot forms in the deep veins of the leg. The clot eventually blocked the flow of blood to the heart. The patient suffered multiple cardiac arrests. The emergency department of the hospital diagnosed a pulmonary embolism, and the thrombectomy was performed by Shabnam Fathima A., consultant, vascular surgery, with the assistance of a multidisciplinary team of specialists. Child Care Leave Denial Can’t Be Mechanical, Must Prioritise Child’s Welfare: Delhi High Court | India News

Last Updated:November 14, 2025, 20:24 IST The court emphasised that CCL was introduced as a welfare measure to help working women balance professional duties with parental responsibilities The court held that the Tribunal had failed to appreciate that the respondents had sanctioned EOL for the same period during which CCL was sought. (File) The Delhi High Court recently held that Child Care Leave (CCL) cannot be denied arbitrarily and must be granted with due regard to the welfare of the child and the needs of the mother. A Bench of Justice Navin Chawla and Justice Madhu Jain observed, “While CCL is not an entitlement as of right, the discretion to deny cannot be exercised arbitrarily or mechanically. It must be guided by the object and spirit of the rule, which is to support the welfare of the child and the legitimate needs of the mother.” The Court emphasised that CCL was introduced as a welfare measure to help working women balance professional duties with parental responsibilities. “Recognising that working mothers often face practical difficulties in …

Gwyneth Paltrow Says Filming Kiss Scenes with Timothée Chalamet Was ‘Very Mechanical’: ‘There’s No Romance’

After years away from major movie roles, Gwyneth Paltrow is making her return to the big screen in the upcoming romantic drama Marty Supreme, starring opposite Timothée Chalamet. But while the onscreen chemistry might sizzle, Paltrow is candid about what filming those steamy scenes is really like. During a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, the Oscar-winning actress described her kiss scenes with Chalamet as anything but romantic, calling them “very mechanical” and “like choreography but involving tongues.” Paltrow, 52, stars as Chalamet’s love interest in Marty Supreme, a film that had earlier been revealed by her to feature “a lot of sex.” When the topic of filming intimate scenes came up, it was admitted by her that the process can be “weird” and far removed from any real passion. “You’re making out with someone you’re not in a relationship with. There’s no romance. It’s very mechanical,” she said. Barrymore noted it’s usually like getting intimate with a colleague, to which Paltrow responded that it’s “like a choreography but involving tongues.” Despite the clinical nature of filming, …

Dversnes wins Tirreno-Adriatico fifth stage as Ganna survives mechanical scare

Fredrik Dversnes won the fifth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico on Friday as Filippo Ganna held his overall lead even though a mechanical failure in the finale left him trailing the peloton. HT Image Norwegian Dversnes claimed his first ever World Tour win ahead of star riders like Tom Pidcock and Mathieu van der Poel after spending almost all of the 205km hike from Ascoli Piceno to Pergola as part of a breakaway. “I’d had a pretty hard, cold two days, so with this weather today, it turned out to be a good stage,” said Dversnes. “Then in the final climb, I got instructions from my sports director to go all in and fortunately it turned out to be good enough. There was a pretty hard kicker up at a kilometre to go, so I wasn’t sure if I could win until 500 metres to go.” Ganna is still 22 seconds ahead of Juan Ayuso in the general classification, but the Ineos rider came very close to losing his lead after his chain went with less …

Meet RAVEN, the fixed-wing drone with mechanical bird-like legs | Technology News

Drone technology has seen rapid improvement in the last few years, changing the way we discover the world and fight wars. Now, researchers at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland and UC Irvine are testing a new drone with fixed wings and mechanical bird-like legs. Robotic Avian-inspired Vehicle for multiple ENvironments, or RAVEN for short can easily take off and land in areas where traditional fixed-wing aircraft cannot. Researchers say the bird-like legs also allow it to walk around, jump over obstacles and even make a jump in the air to take flight. While quadcopters like the ones from DJI are smaller and more flexible, they often rely on four motors which are not as powerful as fixed-wing drones, which are usually powered by a single motor used to glide in the air. In a report published in Nature earlier this week, researchers said they took inspiration from birds like crows and ravens. The drone uses a combination of springs and motors that aim to simulate “”powerful avian tendons and muscles” and even …
