WTO talks on e-commerce duties moratorium deadlocked as reform plan nears deal| India News

By Olivia Le Poidevin WTO talks on e-commerce duties moratorium deadlocked as reform plan nears deal YAOUNDE, – WTO talks on extending a moratorium due to expire this month on customs duties for electronic transmissions such as digital downloads are deadlocked, diplomats said on Sunday, although a wider reform plan is nearing a deal. The talks at a World Trade Organization meeting in Cameroon include efforts to bridge differences between the U.S. and India over extending the e-commerce moratorium, which was first adopted in 1998 to help encourage early digital trade growth. In what is seen as a test for the WTO’s relevance, after a year of tariff-fuelled trade turmoil and major disruptions due to the Iran war, three diplomats told Reuters that ministers are stuck on extending the moratorium beyond more than two years following objections from Brazil. Ministers are debating a new draft document to extend negotiations by four years plus an additional buffer year to 2031, two diplomats said. E-COMMERCE DEADLOCK As well as Brazil’s objections, India and the U.S. have been …

Republicans are looking for a way to bring back the AI moratorium

Republicans are looking for a way to bring back the AI moratorium

House Republicans are looking to renew an effort to override state AI laws after a previous version came to a screeching halt earlier this year. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) told Punchbowl News he’s considering adding language to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) effectively banning state AI regulations. Later on Tuesday, President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social urging Congress to standardize AI regulations. “We MUST have one Federal Standard instead of a patchwork of 50 State Regulatory Regimes,” he wrote. “If we don’t, then China will easily catch us in the AI race. Put it in the NDAA, or pass a separate Bill, and nobody will ever be able to compete with America.” Tacking amendments onto the NDAA, which lawmakers consider a must-pass bill, is a common strategy to get legislation across the finish line at the end of the year. It’s not totally clear what the new language would look like considering 99 out of 100 senators ultimately turned against the version of a five-year moratorium on state AI laws that …

WazirX Reimbursement Plan Faces Delay as Singapore Court Extends Existing Moratorium to June 6

WazirX Reimbursement Plan Faces Delay as Singapore Court Extends Existing Moratorium to June 6

WazirX recently concluded the customer voting on its restructuring scheme designed to compensate users affected by the hack incident in July last year. After a majority of creditors voted in favour of the proposal, the exchange reported the development to the Singapore High Court, seeking a final nod to start the reimbursement process. However, the court decided to defer the case to another date, and directed WazirX and its parent company Zettai to complete some more documentation work. The exchange took to X (formerly Twitter) to explain the latest development, which seemingly aggravated the creditors who reacted to the post with sharp criticism. WazirX, however, conveyed through its post that “they are doing everything we can to make this possible under an effective scheme”. If you want to refund the money….why courts permission is required?…if you don’t want to refund…you deny…why are you going round and round? How can you alive keeping our money with you…have some shame.. Comments section also disabled..why? https://t.co/bh5nIEzGH8 — VSM (@range_13) May 16, 2025 For now, the Singapore court has …

Box Office: Lionsgate to release Ballerina in Russia after three year moratorium; all we know

Lionsgate is reportedly poised to become the first major Hollywood studio to return to Russian theaters since 2022. The studio plans to release Ballerina, a John Wick spinoff starring Ana de Armas, on June 5 through local distributor Atmosfera Kino. While Lionsgate has not issued an official statement, a source familiar with the decision told Variety that the company is now approaching Russian releases case by case. The move comes as international box office revenue remains sluggish and the political climate shows signs of easing. Rumors also have it that other studios may follow Lionsgate’s lead, especially as expectations rise for a possible diplomatic breakthrough between Russia and Ukraine under President Donald Trump’s new innings. While Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps and Paramount’s Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning aren’t expected to screen in Russia, the door is seemingly open for future releases. Watch Trailer HERE: According to an industry figure present at the Cannes Film Festival, Russian buyers have returned in full force and appear eager to reengage with the global film industry. Over 100 people were rendered homeless in multiple landslides that hit the region on July 31, 2024, on the same night of the Mundakkai – Chooralmala tragedy in Wayanad. WazirX’s Moratorium Plan Backed by Just 441 Users Amidst Widespread Social Media Backlash

WazirX, which suffered a loss of over $230 million (approximately Rs. 1,900 crore) in a hack in July, is now working to restructure its finances. In a recent affidavit, the exchange revealed that only 441 users have supported the moratorium appeal filed by its majority stakeholder, Zettai, in a Singapore court. With two million monthly active users, according to data shared with Gadgets360, this means just 0.02 percent of WazirX’s user base has backed the steps taken toward finalising a restructuring and compensation plan. A moratorium appeal essentially buys one month of breathing time for the applying entity, but can be extended. In August, when Zettai filed the appeal in Singapore, the WazirX team issued its first affidavit, informing users that it could take up to six months to finalize a financial reorganization plan, including steps to assist users in recovering their funds. This week, WazirX issued its second affidavit, revealing recent communication details with its users. “As of the morning of 9 September 2024, Zettai received more than 1700 emails from the platform’s users …

GoFirst’s last stand with two suitors in the wings: Understanding airline insolvency in India | Latest News India

Earlier this week, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) extended the moratorium period on Go First’s dues and leased aircraft by another 60 days giving the grounded airline a final chance to get new owners. PREMIUM Go first airlines (Representative Photo) Go First was grounded last May due to financial troubles. Shortly before the crisis hit the 18-year-old airline, it was operating a pared-down fleet of 26 aircraft (of the total 54 aircraft it owned), while the remaining 30 were grounded due to Pratt & Whitney (PW) engine issues. The airline had a market share of 6% on March 23 before it was grounded. A look at the stages of Go First’s insolvency Q. When did Go First file for insolvency? Go First’s insolvency set a precedent in India’s Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), where the company itself filed for insolvency in May last year saying …
