The Supreme Court on Thursday directed states and union territories to come out with a swift response protocol (SRP) for reaching immediate help to road accident victims underscoring the rise of road accidents in the country and the need to save lives of victims who fail to get immediate medical aid. Form plans for swift response in accidents: Supreme Court Granting six months for the exercise to be completed, the bench headed by justice Abhay S Oka said, “We are of the view that states and UTs must work on having a SRP. In every state, the grassroot level situation may be different. We direct the states and UTs to take effective steps to develop the SRP with the objective to ensure help immediately reaches to accident victims.” The court also sought a report from states and UTs on compliance of the Motor Vehicle Act which requires transport vehicle drivers employed by the governments of states/UTs to have restricted working hours to ensure safety of passengers by avoiding accidents caused by driver fatigue. Urging the NDA-led Central government to consider the recent car crash in Vadodara as a “pilot project” to amend the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act, 1988, AICC Secretary and Central Gujarat in-charge Ramkishan Ojha on Wednesday sought “stricter punishment” for what he called “intentional accidents” by drivers under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The Congress leader questioned the power granted to the police in dealing with accused like law student Rakshit Chaurasiya, who, according to him, “committed murder under intoxication” and “made a mockery of the legal system”. On March 13, a car, allegedly being driven by 21-year-old Chaurasiya, had crashed into three two-wheelers, killing a woman and injuring several others in the Karelibaug area. Chaurasiya was sent to judicial custody on Monday. Pune: ‘Drunk’ BMW driver urinates in middle of Pune road, FIR lodged | Pune News

A man allegedly got out of a BMW car in the middle of the road and urinated in full public view at a junction in Yerwada on Saturday morning. A video of the incident went viral on social media. In the initial video, the car is seen stopping on the road at Shastri Nagar junction as the driver steps out and urinates at the spot. His friend, holding a liquor bottle, is seen sitting inside the car as passersby take objection to the act. The driver and his friend then drive off in the car. One of the youths was later taken into custody by police. Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil said an FIR was registered against the driver of the BMW and the friend who accompanied him. Patil said the two have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to obscene acts in a public place as well as sections of the Motor Vehicle Act for allegedly driving the car after consuming liquor. Two days after a minor was conditionally left off in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Ahmedabad’s Bopal area on Saturday — leading to a 34-year-old security guard’s death — the accused’s father, who was named as the co-accused in the FIR, was arrested on Thursday even as the Ahmedabad Rural Police sought permission from the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) to try the 17-year-and-eight-month old as an adult. The minor, whose father is an Ahmedabad-based builder, was driving a Mercedes and had escaped from the spot after the accident, said police, adding that the car has also been taken in custody. On Thursday, the police presented the minor’s father before a local court which granted him bail, confirmed Bopal Police Inspector BT Gohil. The minor, who was detained on September 17 and presented before the JJB, was conditionally let off till September 23 on the grounds that he had to appear for his BBA examination.
