The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has nabbed a man in his late 20s from Nagpur in connection with the recovery of an improvised explosive device at a Pune hospital, officers told news agency PTI on Friday. The suspect, a resident of Pune’s Manjari area, was on the run after the incident. “We found an empty box of a timer used in the IED at his shop. We are questioning him and trying to ascertain whether any other person was involved in the conspiracy,” an ATS officer said. A device containing low-grade explosives was found inside the washroom of Usha Kiran Hospital in Hadapsar on Wednesday evening, which was later disposed of by a team of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad. A 40-year-old civil engineer from Maharashtra died after reportedly falling from a moving train while travelling with his wife and daughter during a religious trip. The incident took place on the Mathura-Chhapra Express while the family was travelling from Mathura to Gorakhpur, the officials said. The engineer, identified as Sunil Baboolal Yadav from Maharashtra`s Nagpur, was later found injured beside the railway track in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad district, police said. According to officials, Sunil Yadav had travelled with his wife Reena Yadav and daughter to Mathura for religious visits. After completing their visit, the family boarded the train to proceed towards Gorakhpur, from where they were planning to travel to Nepal. He was travelling in the first AC coach of the train when the incident took place. Transperson dies by suicide in Nagpur hospital after losing both legs in mishap

A 35-year-old transperson died by suicide at a government-run hospital in Nagpur on Thursday, nearly a month after losing both legs in a train accident, news agency PTI reported, quoting the police. The victim was a resident of Maharashtra’s Amravati district.  According to officers, she earned a livelihood by begging on trains. Last month, she reportedly fell from a moving train and sustained severe injuries, following which both her legs had to be amputated. She was initially admitted to Irwin Hospital in Amravati and was later shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Nagpur for further treatment. Police have registered an accidental death case and launched a probe into the incident. An official from Ajni police station said, “The exact reason behind the suicide is not yet clear. A high-security alert was reportedly issued across Nagpur district in Maharashtra after an anonymous letter claimed that radioactive material had been planted at several sensitive locations in the city, including the RSS headquarters and a BJP office, reported the PTI. The letter was received at the office of Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Singal on April 27, officials said, the news agency reported. The letter, written in English and allegedly sent by a group calling itself “DSS”, claimed that Caesium-137, a highly radioactive substance, had been placed at multiple sites, according to the PTI. Police Inspector Haresh Kalsekar of Mankapur Police Station said a group of complainants approached the police on Saturday, prompting swift action against the accused. “Four girls came to us the day before yesterday to file a complaint. They work for an NGO named Universal Multipurpose Society. The director of this NGO is Riyaz Fazil Qazi,” Kalsekar told the news agency ANI.
