An autorickshaw driver was killed and two others were injured after a gang allegedly carried out three robberies at different locations along Gorewada-Pitesur Road in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district during the early hours of Saturday, reported the PTI.
Police said the incidents occurred within a short span of time, prompting an overnight operation that led to the arrest of all seven accused.
According to police, 35-year-old Mohammad Kashid Mohammad Rafiq, a resident of Mominpura, was returning in his autorickshaw with a catering team when the gang intercepted the vehicle near a temple at around 12.30 am, as per the PTI.
The attackers allegedly stabbed Kashid during the robbery. He was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
A catering worker, Kamlesh Jadiya, was seriously injured while attempting to protect the driver during the attack.
Delivery worker, youth also attacked
Police said the same gang had earlier targeted a food delivery executive, Nikhil Chaudhary, near Chungi Naka, according to the PTI.
The victim was allegedly stabbed during a robbery attempt.
The gang later assaulted another young man in the Gittikhadan area before stealing his mobile phone.
Seven arrested
Following the incidents, Nagpur Police launched an overnight operation and arrested all seven suspects allegedly involved in the robberies, the news agency reported.
Separate cases of murder, robbery and other offences have been registered, and further investigations are underway, police said.
Mumbai Police bust ATM ‘cash-trapping’
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have busted an ATM ‘cash-trapping’ scam in the Bhandup area and nabbed three people, including two women, officials said.
They said that the Bhandup Police have also arrested the alleged mastermind of scam, where customers were tricked into believing an ATM had malfunctioned after cash failed to dispense despite their bank accounts being debited.
According to the police, the scam came to light after several customers complained that they did not receive cash even though the withdrawal amount had been deducted from their accounts.
The investigation began after a 37-year-old branch manager at the Bank of Baroda in Bhandup, lodged a complaint with the police.
According to the complaint, the bank’s ATM at Sachdev Complex received five separate complaints from customers reporting that cash had not been dispensed despite successful debit transactions.
Police registered a case under Sections 305 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against unidentified suspects.
