“Full of propaganda”: Maharashtra Opposition slams PM Modi’s address

The opposition in Maharashtra on Saturday strongly criticised Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi`s address to the nation, alleging that it was filled with “false claims” and that he made no mention of delinking delimitation from women`s reservation, news agency PTI reported. Congress leaders Harshwardhan Sapkal and Nana Patole, Nationalist Congress Party (SP) legislator Rohit Pawar, and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi said PM Modi`s speech for mainly focusing on attacking rival parties. Sapkal, who is the state Congress chief, claimed that the speech was full of “propaganda” and “false claims” targeting the Congress. In a statement, he said that instead of addressing key national issues, PM Modi devoted a significant portion of his 30-minute address to attacking the Congress, mentioning the party 58 times. Sapkal rejected the PM`s assertion that the Congress had opposed initiatives such as the JAM (Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile) trinity and the Goods and Services Tax (GST). He said Aadhaar was launched in 2010 in Maharashtra`s Nandurbar under the leadership of former PM Manmohan Singh and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. …

Is Sharad Pawar holding back? Veteran leader’s silence on Parth land row irks ally Congress | Political Pulse News

The reluctance of the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) to aggressively take on the NCP over corruption allegations in a Pune land deal involving the veteran leader’s grandnephew Parth Pawar has created a sense of unease among its Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) partner Congress, with many of the view that the NCP (SP) is throwing away an opportunity to demand the resignation of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Parth’s father, and create momentum for the alliance ahead of the local body polls. “There has always been a systematic plan by the BJP and our allies to weaken the Congress. Now, with Pawar refraining from taking on Ajit, it is out in the open,” former Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole said recently, adding that the NCP(SP) should have taken an aggressive stand against Parth and Ajit. Another senior Congress leader admitted that a united call to demand Ajit’s resignation would have exerted pressure on the government. “However, it seems the decision not to pursue the matter was taken as the Pawar family name was involved,” he said. Ambedkar’s thoughts and principles. His rise to the highest judicial office is a matter of pride not only for the nation but also for the marginalized communities who see in him a symbol of constitutional justice and social empowerment,” Mr Patole wrote in his letter. After crushing defeat for Congress, murmurs of leadership change in Maharashtra surface | Mumbai News

Faced with crushing defeat, the Maharashtra unit of the Congress is likely to witness the calls for a change in leadership. Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Monday rushed to Delhi to explain the reasons behind the party’s defeat to the party president. Amid speculations of his resignation, Patole said that he has not resigned yet. According to sources within the Congress, the humiliating defeat in the assembly polls where it has touched the lowest number ever since Maharashtra’s formation has not been taken lightly by the party high command who have sought answers. Patole, who was confident of his party winning the elections, is now trying to quell the fire in Delhi. The party managed to win only 16 out of 101 assembly seats it contested. Nana Patole resigns as Maharashtra Congress chief days after assembly poll drubbing

Mumbai: Heads have started rolling in Maharashtra after the Opposition’s Maha Vikas Aghadi took a massive drubbing in the Assembly polls results declared Saturday. State Congress chief Nana Patole has stepped down after the main Opposition party won just 16 out of the 103 seats it contested. Mr Patole barely scraped through in Sakoli with a margin of just 208 votes. Mr Patole, a former MP, took charge of Maharashtra Congress in 2021 when he replaced Balasaheb Thorat. Under his leadership, the Congress posted a stunning performance in the Lok Sabha election earlier this year, winning 13 out of 17 seats it contested. Scoring the highest among all Maha Vikas Aghadi allies, the Congress under Mr Patole bargained hard during seat-sharing talks ahead of the Assembly election. This led to friction between Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (Sharad Pawar). At one point, there were reports that Team Thackeray had refused to hold seat-sharing talks if Mr Patole was involved. Even two days before election results, Mr Patole’s claim that the Maha Vikas Aghadi …
