They have been indicted by a federal grand jury with one count of conspiracy to commit visa fraud in connection with a conspiracy to carry out staged armed robberies at convenience stores for the purpose of allowing store clerks to falsely claim they were crime victims on immigration applications. The defendants are Jitendrakumar Patel, 39; Maheshkumar Patel, 36; Sanjaykumar Patel, 45; Dipikaben Patel, 40, deported to India after unlawfully residing in Massachusetts; Rameshbhai Patel, 52; Amitabahen Patel, 43; Ronakkumar Patel, 28; Sangitaben Patel, 36; Minkesh Patel, 42 and Sonal Patel, 42. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Thursday (March 19, 2026) that the six Ukrainians and an American were found to be “wanting” of the required permits for visiting Mizoram. “Relevant agencies of the Government of India are investigating the case presently. New Delhi: Ukraine has lodged a protest with the Indian government over the March 13 arrest of six of its nationals who Indian investigative agencies claim repeatedly entered Myanmar through Mizoram –along with a US national with a self-professed colourful past–and trained ethnic insurgent groups in drone warfare. The six Ukranians were arrested from Delhi and Lucknow airports as part of a National Investigation Agency operation on March 13 that also nabbed a US national, Mathew Aaron Van Dyke, from Kolkata airport. NIA probes wider network after arrest of U.S., Ukrainian nationals

A citizen of the United States, who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) along with six Ukrainians on the charge of illegally crossing into to Myanmar via Mizoram to train armed ethnic groups in weapons handling and drone warfare methods, has been under observation for the past several months, according to sources in the security agencies. The accused have been identified as U.S. national Matthew Aaron Van Dyke; and Hurba Petro, Slyviak Taras, Ivan Sukmanovskyi, Stefankiv Marian, Honcharuk Maksim, and Kaminskyi Viktor from Ukraine. The NIA is examining their digital footprints to establish the identities of other suspected members of the network.
