Dantewada, A Naxalite carrying a reward of ₹5 lakh on his head was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district, police said on Thursday. Naxalite carrying ₹5 lakh bounty killed in encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh The gunfight took place on Wednesday night in forested hills under the Geedam police station area when a joint team of the District Reserve Guard and Bastar Fighters, both units of the state police, was out on an anti-Naxal operation, Dantewada Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai said. Police received inputs on March 3 that Naxalites were reportedly concealing weapons and other materials in the forested hill region between Gumalnar, Girsapara and Nelgoda villages in the Geedam area bordering Bijapur district. Based on the tip, the operation was launched, he said. A Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh`s Sukma district on Tuesday, a police official said. The exchange of fire broke out in the morning on a forested hill under Errabor police station limits when a team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxalite operation based on inputs about the presence of Maoist cadres in the area, he said. So far, the body of one Naxalite has been recovered from the spot, he said. An intermittent gunfight was underway, and further details were awaited, he added. On Sunday, three Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security personnel in the forested hills of Bhejji and Chintagufa police station areas of Sukma. With the latest action, 263 Naxalites have been killed in encounters in Chhattisgarh so far this year. Two Naxalites carrying a combined bounty of Rs 8 lakh surrendered before the security forces in Maharashtra`s Gadchiroli district, police said on Saturday, PTI reported. As per PTI, Ramasu Poyam also known as Narsingh (55), a native of Gadchiroli, and Ramesh Kunjam known as Govind (25), a native of Narayanpur in neighbouring Chhattisgarh, surrendered before the Gadchiroli police and the Central Reserve Police Force on Friday, police stated in a release. According to the statement, Poyam, who had a Rs 6 lakh bounty, was recruited as a member of the Tipagadh LOS in 1992 and has been the area committee member (ACM) for Kutul and Nelnar LOS since 2010. Poyam has 12 cases to his name, including six encounters, five murders and an offence of dacoity, police said, PTI reported. In 2019, Kunjam joined the militia with a bounty of Rs 2 lakh.
