The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday registered a case for a “comprehensive investigation” to ascertain the nature and extent of irregularities in the leak of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG) (NEET-UG) examination paper held on May 3. In the early hours of Friday, a midnight operation in an apartment in Patna’s Danapur ended an 11-month manhunt for a 51-year-old Nalanda resident, who carried a Rs 3 lakh bounty and faces charges in at least four examination scams across multiple states. The National testing Agency (NTA) on Sunday dismissed reports of a “leak” of the NEET-UG exam question paper. The test was conducted in 557 cities across the country and 14 cities abroad on Sunday. Several social media posts later claimed that the question paper was leaked. At one centre in Rajasthan — Girls Higher Secondary Adarsh Vidya Mandir, Sawai Madhopur — Hindi medium students complained that they were handed English question paper. The NTA admitted to the “error of wrong question paper”, but refuted the reports of paper leak. “The instances of ‘paper leak’ being claimed are completely false… In an isolated incident at Girls Higher Secondary Adarsh Vidya Mandir, students were given English medium question paper by mistake and by the time the invigilator could correct the mistake, the students forcefully walked out of the exam hall with the question paper,” a senior NTA official said.
