A man, who cleared the sub-inspector examination, and his father died early Thursday in a village in this district after accidentally touching a broken live power line in the field where they had gone to defecate, police said. The incident took place in Sahpurwa village under Bansdih Road police station area following which villagers staged a road blockade. According to the police, Rajesh Yadav (27) and his father Janardan Yadav (58) had gone to the field around 6 am for their morning routine when Rajesh came in contact with the power line that had snapped and fallen there the previous night. As Janardan rushed to save his son, he too came in contact with the live wire and both died on the spot, officials said. Rajesh had successfully cleared the recruitment examination for the post of sub-inspector in the police department. Following the incident, villagers blocked the Ballia-Bansdih highway, disrupting traffic. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak on Friday (May 8, 2026) ordered strict action against several health officials, over alleged negligence, dereliction of duty, and irregularities in the Health Department, including the dismissal of five doctors from service. According to an official statement issued by his office, five medical officers were dismissed for remaining absent from duty for a prolonged period without information and for staying away from medical work. Those dismissed include Dr. Alaknanda of the district hospital in Gorakhpur, Dr. Ramji Bhardwaj posted under the Kushinagar Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Saurabh Singh posted under the Balrampur CMO, Dr. Viklesh Kumar Sharma of CHC Jagdishpur in Amethi and Dr. Monica Verma of CHC Dibiyapur in Auraiya, it stated. “The government also ordered departmental disciplinary proceedings against 16 medical officers, including Ambedkar Nagar CMO Dr. Sanjay Kumar Shaival and Deputy CMO Dr. Sanjay Verma, over alleged irregularities in the registration and renewal process of private hospitals, nursing homes and ultrasound centres,” it added. THANE: An undertrial lodged at Aadharwadi jail in Kalyan died on Tuesday after reportedly complaining of chest pain, triggering allegations of negligence on the part of jail authorities. The undertrial, identified as Rishikesh Pawar, was arrested in connection with an attempt to murder case registered at the Hill Line Police Station in Ulhasnagar on April 20 and later remanded in judicial custody, jail authorities said.
