Romanian authorities said F-16 fighter jets, supported by Italian Eurofighters under NATO’s Enhanced Air Policing mission, intercepted the aircraft before it crashed in Buzău County. Military officials said the drone appeared to be a Shahed-type or Geran-2 UAV, which typically carries explosives. Candidates | Viswanathan Anand on Vaishali: ‘She was always in better control of her nerves than rest of the field’ | Chess News

3 min readMumbaiUpdated: Apr 16, 2026 11:44 PM IST After a phase of two years, where almost nothing went right for her, Vaishali Rameshbabu delivered the biggest hit of her career by winning the cut-throat Women’s Candidates tournament. Plenty has been said about how Vaishali was the lowest-rated player in the eight-woman field. But a true measure of just how much of a Cinderella tale her victory at Cyprus was can be drawn by the fact that she will still leave the Mediterranean island as the lowest-rated player among the eight, despite gaining 26 ELO points over the course of two weeks while most of the others lost rating. The win means Vaishali is only the second Indian woman in history who will compete at the Women’s World Championship after Koneru Humpy in Tirana in 2011. One of the early believers in the 24-year-old Vaishali’s talent was five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand, who named her in the first cohort of his chess school (Westbridge Anand Chess Academy). In fact, Vaishali was the only female prodigy …

Last Updated:February 28, 2026, 17:07 IST Adrien Fontanellaz touched upon Pakistan winning the info war but said it would benefit India in the long run as the adversary would become complacent due to their own propaganda Swiss-based military historian Adrien Fontanellaz. At the Rising Bharat Summit, Swiss-based military historian and author Adrien Fontanellaz highlighted the critical role of political courage and institutional trust in high-stakes military operations, citing India’s Operation Sindoor as a case in point. “On the political level, you really need nerves of steel to let your military be in charge of the escalation ladder and to do what they need to do because the stakes are so high,” Fontanellaz said. “You need trust in your own institutions—this was quite striking and rare.” Operation Sindoor, carried out after the Pahalgam terror attack, involved carefully calibrated strikes and military maneuvers aimed at countering insurgent networks while minimising escalation. Asked about India dominating the battlefield but losing the information war, the historian reflected on the complexities of modern conflict, where strategic outcomes are no longer …

However, the popular hill station icon is currently on the rampage, damaging vehicles and raising concerns among travellers. The tusker recently attacked vehicles along the Munnar–Marayur interstate route and several narrow side roads. According to Forest Department sources, the animal has damaged four vehicles this month alone. While some residents argue that Padayappa has become a “conflict animal,” plantation workers and many local people continue to express deep affection for the elephant. R. Mohan, president, Munnar Environment and Wildlife Society (MEWS), said the organisation has monitored Padayappa’s movements for years. “In recent years, the tusker has displayed aggressive behaviour during its musth period in January and February,” Mr. Mohan said. “Once the musth subsides, he returns to his normal routine, roaming peacefully in and around Munnar. Because of this seasonal aggression, certain groups are portraying Padayappa as a conflict animal …

Will Jacks reveals final-over nerves in T20 World Cup clash against Nepal: ‘My heart was thumping’ | Cricket News

3 min readFeb 8, 2026 09:12 PM IST England escaped with a narrow victory against a spirited Nepal side in a nerve-shredding T20 World Cup encounter in Mumbai, surviving a final-over scare in a match that once again underlined how little separates teams in the shortest format. Nepal’s fearless chase kept England under pressure until the very end, with the Asian side needing just 10 runs from the final over. Will Jacks, who put in a Player of the match performance making 39 runs with the bat and claiming 1/17 in two overs, admitted he was “very nervous” as the game went down to the wire, but trusted Sam Curran to deliver under pressure. “I was very nervous – extremely nervous. My heart was thumping. But I had confidence in Sam Curran. He’s defended situations like that before, and he did it brilliantly again today. His yorkers were excellent, and he executed under pressure,” Jacks said at the post-match press conference. The match ebbed and flowed throughout, with momentum swinging repeatedly. England appeared in control …

South Africa women’s coach Mandela Mashinbyi has spoken about how the team psychologist Dr Koketjo Tsebe has helped ‘to keep the players cam and focussed’ in the world cup campaign in India. “Having the psychologist here just helps to keep the players calm and focused. For me, as a coach, I only have to focus on the cricketing side of things. How Shardul and Avesh held their nerves to help LSG rescue three points against MI | Ipl News

SYNOPSIS: Hardik Pandya’s heroics go in vain as LSG overcome Mumbai Indians’ middle-order fight to pull off 12-run win. Sometimes it doesn’t take too much to put even the elite T20 bats under immense pressure. In a game that seemed to slip away from Lucknow Super Giants, Tilak Varma’s retired-out sacrifice in the 19th over of a slog-fest ensured that Mumbai Indians’ vaunted batting order was feeling the heat enough to stir up a win after being put in to bat first. Indeed, it took Shardul Thakur to re-enter ‘Lord’ mode in the 49th over to stub the contest, pushing the 201-run target a little past even an imperious Hardik Pandya. In a sequence loaded with low full-tosses, the propers and one in the blockhole, Thakur’s unfailing accuracy prompted MI to even nervously retire Tilak out on 25 (off 23), strangely offering Hardik a depleted bat in Mitchell Santner at the other end before the final over. Playing catch-up from the outset after openers Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks fell in the space of four …

Shubman Gill who was in good form in the tournament fell for a low score of four runs in the final. However, it was Gill’s first ICC tournament and the game against Australia was his first ICC final at senior level. The 25-year-old would recall how he had “some nerves” for the game. “Obviously some nerves in that match (2023 final). (I learned) a lot of things. It was my first ICC Final … I was very excited. (It felt like) I was losing time to dominate in that game. I think in big ICC knockout matches, you can give yourself a little bit more time than you think,” he said speaking to ICC. Though India lost the final they made a comeback by lifting the T20 World Cup 2024 co-hosted in the West Indies and the USA. “We lost (the World Cup Final) in ‘23 and then won in the T20 World Cup …
