Romania has shot down a drone that entered its airspace for the first time since Russia-Ukraine war began, marking a major escalation on NATO’s eastern flank. Romanian authorities said F-16 fighter jets, supported by Italian Eurofighters under NATO’s Enhanced Air Policing mission, intercepted the aircraft before it crashed in Buzău County. Military officials said the drone appeared to be a Shahed-type or Geran-2 UAV, which typically carries explosives. The incident comes as Russia and Ukraine continue exchanging major strikes across the battlefield.
