3 min readApr 23, 2026 08:32 PM IST Amid the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notices to six cricket stadiums and respective associations seeking an explanation as to why their activities should not be stopped for non-compliance of its directions on sustainable use of water to maintain cricket grounds. The NGT principal bench comprised of chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert members A Senthil Vel and Afroz Ahmad passed the order on April 16, while hearing an ongoing execution application on compliance of its 2021 order. The Tribunal had directed cricket associations to regulate groundwater extraction and ensure effective rainwater harvesting for maintenance of cricket grounds. According to 11Sports, the franchise failed to meet financial commitments and remained in persistent default despite being given multiple opportunities to resolve the issues. In an official statement, the league organisers said they had engaged in discussions with the franchise over several months and provided extended timelines to ensure compliance. Kochi, Flagging instances of the accused getting bail because the investigating officer did not comply with pre-arrest formalities, the Kerala High Court on Thursday directed all criminal courts in the state to ensure compliance with pre-arrest formalities as stipulated in several Supreme Court judgments before considering remand applications. The defaulter colleges include two each in Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry; three each in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar; and one each in Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. “It was found that these colleges had not complied with the mandatory requirements set forth in the Anti-Ragging Regulations, 2009, for curbing the menace of ragging. The Maharashtra government on Monday issued a resolution mandating the use of Marathi in all government and semi-government offices across the state, news agency ANI reported. Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis (PTI file) As per the directive, employees must communicate in Marathi with all visitors, except those from outside India or non-Marathi-speaking states. The resolution applies to government offices, semi-government bodies, corporations under the Maharashtra government, and other related offices. Any violation of this directive will be considered an act of official indiscipline. Citizens can file formal complaints against employees who fail to adhere to the rule with the in-charge of the respective office or department. If the complainant is unsatisfied with the action taken, they can escalate the issue to the Marathi Language Committee of the Maharashtra Legislature for further intervention, the resolution said. The Bombay High Court on Tuesday disposed of the contempt petition filed by a lawyer alleging non-compliance with the 2018 orders of HC by civic authorities to repair potholes along all arterial roads in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). A division of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar passed a judgement in a contempt petition by lawyer Ruju Thakker and found that authorities had made efforts for compliance with the 2018 directions, and therefore, were not in contempt of the said orders. However, considering the “public welfare and importance”, the court revived the suo motu Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in which the court passed directions in 2018 and sought detailed replies from the civic authorities. The court said it was difficult for it to keep issuing directions in the contempt plea, hence it was reviving the PIL. “This court is of the considered opinion that respondents have made bonafide efforts for compliance with directions, therefore, they cannot be held to have committed contempt of orders dated February 24 and April 12, 2018. …

The European Commission is opening five non-compliance investigations into how Apple, Google, and Meta are complying with its new Digital Markets Act antitrust rules, the regulator announced today. “We suspect that the suggested solutions put forward by the three companies do not fully comply with the DMA,” the EU’s antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager said in a statement. “We will now investigate the companies’ compliance with the DMA, to ensure open and contestable digital markets in Europe.” In particular, the Commission plans to investigate Google and Apple’s anti-steering rules in their app stores and whether Google is guilty of self-preferencing its own services within its search engine. Apple’s browser choice screen for iOS is also being investigated as well as Meta’s “pay or consent model” for ad targeting.
