New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has cleared the ‘one nation, one election‘ proposal that will eventually see simultaneous voting for state and union governments, as well as urban bodies or panchayats. The Cabinet on Wednesday accepted the report of the panel led by former President Ram Nath Kovind that said there is “unanimous” support for the ‘one nation, one election’ idea. The BJP has firmly backed the proposal, saying it saves time and money, but nearly two dozen parties, led by the Congress, have argued it is impractical and unnecessary. Modi Cabinet approves Ram Nath Kovind-led report on ‘One Nation, One Election’, bill to be introduced in Winter Session – India TV

One Nation One Election: The Modi Cabinet has approved the proposal for ‘One Nation One Election,’ which aims to synchronise the elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies to a single schedule, said sources. The report of the high-level committee on ‘one nation, one election’ was placed before the Union Cabinet on Wednesday. The bill regarding ‘One Nation One Election’ is expected to be introduced in the Winter Session of Parliament.  Recommendations of the panel The committee on the ‘One Nation, One Election’, headed by former president Ram Nath Kovind, had submitted its report to President Droupadi Murmu on March 15 this year, recommending simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha, state Assemblies.
