Vacation to Finland, home renovation, spa packages: Inside the $350K ‘Everyone Wins’ gift bags Oscar nominees receive

‘Everyone’s a winner’ may be a cliched line in competitive sports, but in the world of creative arts, it may hold true. Every year, even as one person wins an Oscar, others also go home with a lot, from acclaim to exposure. Over the last two decades, that has also included a prized gift bag. For the last 24 years, nominees in major Academy Award categories have received a gift bag curated by a US-based company. And every year, it gets bigger, grander, and more lavish. This year, it contains about $350,000 worth of luxury products. Nominees in the acting and direction categories of the Oscars receive a lavish gift bag of luxury items. Distinctive Assets, a US-based firm, has curated these gift bags for the nominees in the top acting and directing categories at the Oscars for 24 years. Marketer Lash Fary assembles these …

Crore-plus packages land at NITs and private colleges

Crore-plus packages land at NITs and private colleges

High-frequency trading (HFT) firms, global technology companies and venture-backed startups are expanding recruitment beyond the IITs to secure the top percentile of non-IIT institutions, often at pay levels comparable to IIT campuses. While IITs still dominate in volume and brand, recruiters say the gap at the very top of the talent pool is narrowing. That change is being driven by a tightening supply of high-calibre engineers, the rising premium on niche skills and a pragmatic reassessment of hiring risk and retention. With placements at older IITs beginning later in the year and competition for top candidates intensifying, employers are moving earlier and casting a wider net—targeting standout performers at NITs and select private universities before the market clears. “Two students from the batch of 2026 got crore offers exceeding ₹1 crore so far, while six students received a package over ₹70 lakh, and 34 students secured jobs with CTC exceeding ₹50 lakh,” highlighted P Venkata Suresh, head of the Centre for Career Planning and Development at NIT Warangal, one of the country’s oldest NIT. Alongside …

DHL restarts deliveries of international packages worth more than 0

DHL restarts deliveries of international packages worth more than $800

DHL Express is resuming shipments of packages valued over $800 that are bound for consumers in the US, Reuters reports. The international shipping company had suspended the shipments last week due to “a surge in formal customs clearances” amidst the Trump administration’s sweeping tariffs on international goods. Effective today, business-to-consumer shipments valued between $800 and $2,500 have resumed and are back to the standard “informal” entry process for clearance, according to DHL. The company says business-to-business shipments and packages valued under $800 were not affected by the pause. DHL warns that some consumer packages may still experience transit delays to the US. DHL says normal operations are back after “constructive dialogue” with the US government, which “demonstrated a strong willingness to understand” the company’s challenges and agreed to “act quickly” in the interest of US consumers. Trump triples tariffs on low value packages from China and Hong Kong

Trump triples tariffs on low value packages from China and Hong Kong

Donald Trump is making it even more expensive for US consumers to shop online from Chinese retailers like Temu and Shein. In an executive order amendment published Tuesday night, Trump raised the tariff rate for packages valued under $800 entering the US from China and Hong Kong that previously were exempt. The increase essentially triples what shoppers would have paid previously. Under a previous tariff package hitting Chinese imports, sub-$800 packages were subject to a 30 percent tariff on the total value of the package, or $25 per postal item. Now, those rates have jumped to 90 percent of the value or $75 per postal item. The White House didn’t immediately clarify which of the two rates packages would be subject to — the executive order suggests carriers can opt for “either” method. China is an epicenter of manufacturing for the world, and the US is the world’s largest importer. Sudden and sweeping tariffs will affect everything from shoes and clothes to electronics, furniture, and components like screws used to build other products. Tariffs were …

US Postal Service suspends incoming packages from China, Hong Kong | News Today News

The U.S. Postal Service said it would temporarily suspend parcels from China and Hong Kong, after President Donald Trump shut a trade loophole this week used by retailers including Temu and Shein to ship low-value packages duty-free to the U.S. USPS said the change will not impact the flow of letters and ‘flats’ from China and Hong Kong. It did not immediately comment on whether this was tied to Trump’s change to ending de minimis shipments from China and other countries. Story continues below this ad Fast-fashion retailer Shein and online dollar-store Temu, both of which sell products ranging from toys to smartphones, have grown rapidly in the U.S. thanks in part to the de minimis exemption. The two firms together likely accounted for more than 30% of all packages shipped to the United States each day under the de minimis provision, the U.S. congressional committee on China said in a June 2023 report. Nearly half of all packages shipped under de minimis come from China, according to the report. Shein and Temu did not …
