Continuing its targeted action against weapon suppliers, absconders, drug peddlers, thieves, gamblers and liquor smugglers, under the Haryana government’s “Operation Hotspot Domination”, the Panchkula police has arrested 29 accused over the last four days in a coordinated operation across 101 identified hotspots in the district. The action significantly tightened security in sensitive areas, police said. According to the officials, teams from the Crime Branch, all police stations and checkpoints jointly conducted intensive combing operations. Police seized one country-made pistol, one live cartridge, six suspicious motorcycles, Rs 1.18 lakh cash, a tanker, and 80 bottles of illicit liquor during the raids. Two gun houses were also inspected to verify licences, compliance records and storage norms. The police have further sent a proposal to cancel the passport of one absconding accused to prevent him from escaping abroad. Officials said among the 28 arrested in the general crackdown, nine were long-time absconders involved in violent and serious offences, who had been evading arrest for months.
