Actor and CINTAA (Cine and TV Artistes’ Association) President Poonam Dhillon has appealed to producers to ensure fair treatment and timely payments for actors, especially those doing smaller roles. Speaking to ANI, she said many junior actors struggle because of delayed payments and urged producers to be more sensitive towards them Dhillon said big stars often receive special treatment, while actors with smaller roles continue to face several challenges on film and television sets. The Supreme Court on Thursday said that insurance companies are not liable to pay compensation for accidents if the driver’s licence was not valid or not renewed at the time of the incident. The court also stressed the need for urgent reforms in regulating driving schools (HT_PRINT) The top court said that an insurance company could not be saddled with the liability if the offending vehicle was driven without a valid driving licence. Referring to the issue of vehicles being driven without valid licences, the top court said that it leads to a situation where a driver or an owner or both will have to pay huge amounts as compensation in accident cases, and called for a nationwide campaign to make citizens aware. A bench comprising Justices Sanjay Karol and N Kotiswar Singh asked the Union Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways and state transport departments to run a nationwide campaign to promote road safety and strengthen compliance with traffic laws. Karnataka Upalokayukta justice B. Veerappa, during a surprise inspection of the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) market in Hosapete on Saturday, directed the APMC authorities to ensure that farmers are not forced to pay commission to middlemen and ordered the immediate installation of signboards declaring that collection of commission from farmers is illegal. During his visit to the APMC market, several farmers complained that officials and intermediaries were illegally collecting commission from them. Responding to the grievances on the spot, Mr. Veerappa instructed farmers not to pay commission under any circumstances and directed the APMC authorities to prominently display boards informing farmers that charging commission is prohibited by law. To ensure that farmers were not being cheated in weighing their produce, the Upalokayukta checked the weighing machine by standing on it and verified its accuracy.
