Indian wrestlers bagged four medals in the beach wrestling competition on the final day of the 2026 Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, on Wednesday. Priya Malik (70+ Kg) and Pushpa Yadav (60 Kg) bagged the gold medals, while Siddharth (70 Kg) and Jaspreet Kaur (70kg) clinched silver and bronze medals, respectively. On the other hand, in lightweight 50 kg bronze medal match, Priyanshi Prajapat conceded an injury and hence lost the bout to Japan’s Funa Yano. These four medals, combined with the two medals in beach kabaddi on Monday, India finished the tournament with 6 medals – 3 Gold, 2 Silver and a Bronze. Former Asian medalist Priya Malik defeated Mongolia’s Zorigt while Pushpa Yadava got the better of reining Asian freestyle champion Xie Mengu of China in final. 31-member Indian contingent to battle across 4 sports – Preview

India is geared up for this year’s first major multi-sport mega event, sending a 31-player contingent to the Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, from April 22 to 30. This will be the sixth edition of the Asian Beach Games, which are returning to the international calendar after a decade-long wait, since the 2016 edition in Da Nang, Vietnam. The games feature 62 medal events across 14 sports, including many unique sports like Aquathlon, Beach Handball, Teqball and Beach Kabaddi. India had won 46 medals, including 12 gold medals, from the first five editions, and this time will compete in 18 medal events across four sports: 3×3 Basketball, Beach Kabaddi, Beach Wrestling, and Sailing. Beach Kabaddi has been the most successful sport for India, having won seven gold medals so far – All five in the women’s and 2 golds in the men’s edition. Indian contingent gears up for first Ranking Series event of the year

Indian wrestlers are set to begin their international season with the first Ranking Series event of the year, the Zagreb Open in Croatia, to be held from February 4 to 8. Following the much-welcomed return of the Pro Wrestling League (PWL), the young wrestlers are now geared up to showcase the skills and experience they gained from the league on the global stage. India will send a 41-member contingent to the event, including experienced campaigners such as Sujeet Kalkal, Manisha Bhanwala, Aman Sehrawat and two-time world medallist Antim Panghal. The U20 National Wrestling Championships was held in Kota, Rajastan from April 20 to April 22, 2025. The most renowned face of the circuit, two-time world U20 medalist Priya Malik, clinched the women’s 76 kg title, while the U17 champions Harshita (72 kg) and Suraj (60 kg GR), were also crowned champions in their respective weight class. However, the reigning U20 world silver medalist, Nitika, had a setback in the women’s 62 Kg, settling for the bronze medal. Pragati of Maharashtra clinched the title in this category. A few other international medalists, like Jaspooran Singh (125 Kg), Reena (55 Kg), Neha Sangwan (57 Kg), and Muskan (59 Kg), also clinched the titles in their respective categories. The four-day Repertwarh Festival at Janeshwar Mishra Park concluded on a high note with an electrifying performance by the rock band Agnee. Vocalist Mohan Kannan, guitarist Kaustubh Dhavale Koco, bassist Chirayu Vedekar, and drummer Hrishikesh Datar captivated a large, enthusiastic audience, weaving magic through their musical renditions. Vishvajit More won India’s first medal at the 2024 U23 World Wrestling Championships after winning a bronze medal in the men’s 55 Kg Greco-Roman category in Tirana, Albania on Wednesday. He was India’s lone medalist in the Greco-Roman category at this competition which he achieved with a win in a high-scoring (14-10) bronze medal match against an AIN wrestler Adam Ulbashev. Vishvajit had a solid outing at the competition, winning his first two round matches with technical superiority against Moldovan and Kazakhstan wrestlers respectively. However, he lost his semifinal bout (5-14) to eventual champion Ali Ahmadi Vafa of Iran despite having an early lead. But, he added another major medal to his tally after a silver from the Asian U23 Championships. The young Indian wrestlers will return for the exciting U23 World Championships in Tirana, Albania, for the second successive year, scheduled from October 21 to 27. India is sending a 30-member contingent for the event, competing in Indian colors after missing out last year, when they played under a neutral flag due to the UWW ban. The Indian team includes several experienced players like Priya Malik, Sujeet, and Nitika, who have also competed in Indian senior team tournaments in the past. Last time, India won nine medals at the championships, including a historic gold medal in the women’s 76 kg category by Reetika Hooda.
